VENATI

SHE/HER ~ MELANCHOLIC ~ CHAOTIC GOOD

She remembered the day Furo joined them, the day she was no longer Latrans' favorite dragon. The time had been coming for years at that point, but it still hurt.

Once upon a time, Venati had been a lost pup, too. She had wandered into Latrans' home the same way Furo had, yet she had been embraced by only one, not by hundreds. The Kami hadn't been united yet, hadn't been given a name other than "Freaks!" or "Monsters!"

And yet Latrans had loved her like a mother—she nursed her with the finest goat milk, taught her sternly yet compassionately, and celebrated her day of arrival with the finest cakes and meats and gifts. She had been Latran's first child, yet of course everything had to change.

She had been overjoyed when Latrans began her mission, bringing together and uniting all of those like them, animals who had evolved alongside the dragons, biologically intertwined yet doomed to never be exactly alike. And yet as more and more of their kind, Kami, joined Latrans in their little mountain enclave, she began to felt... replaced. Suddenly her mother was not as active in her life, suddenly they only interacted with a sweet "good night" before sleep, and suddenly she was just a little pup again, abandoned and left for dead.

She just wanted her mother to be only hers again, and the cracks forming finally split her heart open when Latrans oh-so-gently lifted Furo, cradled him like she had done for her... and she knew she had lost.

Latrans was not a cruel soul, nor was she necessarily evil for leaving her behind—but it hurt when Latrans had so many sudden responsibilities and took in another on top of that. Venati was an adult, but she still needed her mother...but maybe this was for a reason? Mayhaps her own journey had begun—maybe it was time for her to leave her mother, to go out into the world like Latrans had.

May Furo be given all the love and joy that she had recieved as a pup, and may Latrans learn to balance her duties accordingly–he was no brother of hers, but he was a Child of Latrans, and would forever carry her legacy. She had her own journey to begin, and maybe she would find the same love for life that Latrans had.

She rests here now, in her current lair, perhaps loved or perhaps hated—she never did look like a normal pearlcatcher anyways. Hopefully now she can be happy, having found a life for herself just as her mother had done before her...
