ABOUT
‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾
▾ Kiva is a beekeeper. When she was younger, she traveled the world as a gem appraiser, and was quite good at it. She has a very keen eye, and a shrewd, analytical personality that leaves no room for ambiguity, which made her fit in well among pristine jewelers' cases. The money was good, but the work itself was far from rewarding. Kiva was born in the shifting grasslands of the Shattered Plain, and longed to retire there someday, though she suspected she would be bored to death if she didn't have something to keep her busy. Kiva was first drawn to melittology when a client gifted her a jar of honeycomb in exchange for her clever discovery of a handful of fakes in their collection. She'd spent hours studying the structure of the comb in the jar, fascinated by its faceted symmetry. The comb reminded her of a well-cut gem, or the geometric, arboreal roosts fae dragons build, and she felt an immediate kinship with the insects that built it.
Her first hive was a hobby, a scientific endeavor set upon because she wanted to understand how such small, seemingly bumbling creatures could create such mathematically ingenious structures. It wasn't long before she left the gem trade to keep bees full time. She was enchanted by the delicate intricacy of their small lives, their complex relationships with the plant life around them, the subtle and inscrutable language of their communities. They were gentle creatures, made strong by their numbers and the clever mechanisms of their evolution. Since discovering her passion, Kiva has settled on the borders of an enchanted orchard in the foothills of the Cairnstone Mountains, which tangles with the mouth of the Long Rest River in verdant splendor. Her hives have multiplied, and they buzz contentedly day in and day out through the fields of wildflowers and crooked rows of fruit trees. The strange bogsneak who tends the orchard has a fruit stand where he gives away his harvest (Treasure would weaken the taste of fruit this sweet me insists), though he lets Kiva sell her bee products there. Tt's not as lucrative as her previous career, but it keeps her fed and housed, and for the first time in her life, Kiva feels satisfied with her life, soothed by her humming hives and endlessly rewarded by the process of their care.
