PERSONALITY

Cicero is cursed with a natural awkwardness. Their metamorphosis at a relatively young age only aided their stiltedness, with them having to grow up quickly on their own, now lacking any outside guidance. The result is a hardened exterior, although not in the way that they're aloof, but in the way that they're quiet. They're methodical in their decisions, with a deadpan quality that provides an unintended layer of seriousness. At times they can overcompensate for their awkwardness, their words laced with a rough edge to avoid scrutiny.

Cicero is always looking for ways to balance their footing. They have a tendency of dedicating themselves solely to one thing— for better or for worse. It's imperative for them to have a purpose, something tangible to know they're carrying their own weight around, to dissuade their own anxieties. Cicero wants nothing more than stability and security; there's a nagging fear in the back of their mind that they could lose everything again if they're not careful. So they position themselves as someone reliable and helpful— someone of use.

ABOUT

It’s been years since the Gatekeeper’s disappearance. Her impact is still felt despite this, the mass exaltation having struck terror and grief in all who was affected; without her to answer for her crimes, it’s her offspring who instead pay the price. Many are feared and shunned, ousted from their clans once found out. Some go into hiding while others embrace their ostracization. Cicero would follow the former.

Orphaned at a young age, the hatchling would be found at the outskirts of a foreign clan, taken in by a good-hearted couple. Life was normal for a blissful few years. It’s unfortunate what prejudices lay deep, threatening to take away love that was so freely given out prior…

Children of Naomi undergo a sort of “metamorphosis.” It’s different for every individual, from when the metamorphosis takes place to what exactly they become. Some are afforded powers, others are changed irrevocably, and even sometimes both. The further down in generation, the more diluted it becomes— but it must always happen. Cicero’s own metamorphosis manifested in the gift of otherworldly sight, but at the cost of a face that was unrecognizable. Something that “glitched” oddly, as if reality fought against it…

Their parents, as loving as they were, could not contain their shock. It was a tell-tale sign of the Gatekeeper, a force that had personally affected the clan leader. However, rather then alerting their clan leader, they sobbed. Cicero’s mother grabbed firmly at their shoulders and told them to flee. Cicero did not take their words lightly and did as asked. They flew far away from their old clan, traveling across regions in search of answers. Eventually in their searching, they would reach the Tangled Wood, following paths of bioluminescent mushrooms.

…There was a voice coming from a cave. Whispers of knowing the truth, of being help, of needing help.

Cicero would plunge into the depths.
