A bit socially awkward, but a hacker genius with an eidetic memory, Futaba Sakura became the navigator of the Phantom Thieves after they helped her overcome her suicidal depression relating to her mother's death. For a long time, she held herself responsible for the "suicide" or her mother, which led to her becoming a shut in, unwilling and unable to talk to anyone, or even leave her room. When she realized the Phantom Thieves could change hearts, and maybe even help her overcome these horrible feelings, she hacked Ren's phone and demanded the help of the thieves. They, when they realized the situation, did so, and made her remember that her mother's death was not her fault, and that the "suicide note" she left Futaba was a forgery, and that her mother was, in all actuality, assassinated for her research into cognitive psience and the metaverse. When she first went to the metaverse, she made a contract with the demon Al Azif, and gained the ability to sense things far beyond normal means.

While she initially joined the Phantom Thieves to find out the truth behind her mother's death, she did grow to love them as true friends, as well as care about their mission in earnest. Through their adventures, they learned that Futaba's mother's death was a hit ordered by Mayoshi Shido, who then stole her research, and carried out by Goro Akechi. Futaba has... complicated feelings about Akechi. She doesn't forgive him for killing her mother- he ruined her life- but she can recognize that he was manipulated too. She flipflops between being glad that he's gone, and wishing that he'd gotten a chance to redeem himself. These feelings only intensified when, after hacking and snooping through a few databases, she found out that Shido was also her father, making them half-siblings. She finds him... tragic. Awful and tragic and she hates him, but he deserved better than to be slaughtered like a pig once he wasn't useful anymore.

She... maybe she would've liked to get to know him. She doesn't forgive him. But she would've liked to see him improve rather than have his life cut short. She doesn't feel like she properly got her closure surrounding him, and it's an ugly, awful feeling.

With the Phantom Thieves splitting up, she decided to finally try and get over her social anxiety, and start attending school again. Despite being a genius as-is, she never finished it, and y'know. She'd like to at least do that. She not sure what she'll do after that, but going to school feels like an important step. It's so simple, but so hard, and she wants to get better. It has been hard, without the rest around (aside from Sumire), but she's managing. She tries her best, and has even made a few friends outside of the Thieves! She has a girlfiend in Sumire! Slowly but surely, she feels like she's getting better.

Besides, it's not as if she never hears from the rest anymore. They chat regularly, and, well, she has their phones bugged to know where they are, and what they're doing... y'know. Just in case.
