Ranu
Caretaker Mated to Flightstone She paces between rocks on the shore, waiting for her mate to come home.
She fretted more than anyone else in the clan. She would feel her weight sinking into the soft sands of the shore, stepping into spaces already pressed as she paced in wait for her mate to return. She caught the sun like stained glass, shimmering against the water’s glow and quiet. She could not cease her worries, not until she had seen her mate return safely.
She was not a fighter. A being of peace, scouring the sand for seashells, occasionally gasping to pick one up, looking it over with a satisfied smile. There were others who came to clan, not looking to serve their deities. Looking for peace, for serenity and wisdom in times of lost futures. She would soothe them and lend them her patience and understanding. She would take them to the beaches where she would often wait, and help them to gather for the clan. She offered them small roles, pieces and chores to help them settle. Ranu believed truly in the concept of everyone doing their part to help. When she had first seen Flightstone, she could not help but to worry for him. His training seemed to summon what she considered to be needless fights. She watched the clash of metal and armour and the sheer force of the battle and winced, uttering the softest whimper upon hearing the sound of the clanging armour. Ranu could not profess her worry to the stranger. He would tend poorly to his injuries and rush back out to fight the next day. Ranu could not bear to see the badly wrapped wounds any longer, and with little introduction was sitting him down to give him a soft, half embarrassed lecture on the importance of proper healing. She was like him. A passion for others, though in not the same manner. Her worries seemed to ease as she helped him, so small by comparison. He watched a shell fall from her satchel and plucked it up to return it to her. She bit back a nervous laugh. Ranu collected the shells for others. Those who could no longer walk nor fly, who missed the call of the sea. She pressed the shell to Flightstone’s ear and implored him to listen to the rush of the sea billowing within the shell’s dainty walls. He could not keep himself away from her. She fretted on a level beyond anything Flightstone had ever seen. She worried along the beach, within the clan, in the middle of the night and during the peak of the sun against the sky. But each time, when Flightstone returned from his tiresome training, her worries would ease. He was safe, and home. Her gathering and her helping around the clan proved her devotion to the people was as strong as his devotion to the gods. She became known quickly as a busybody, a role-giver and a friend. Ranu grew into her purpose. And as she found herself smitten with not only the clan, but with its people, she knew she had found her home. Lore by PunchingSolas |
