here's how i remember the first doctor: an old man, unwilling to face his past, looking only to his future.

and what a future that will turn out to be.

and quite by accident he picks up two humans, and thus picks up a lifelong habit of humans.

but that's all later.

my clearest memory of One is "no tears, no regrets".

when he decides to leave susan behind, he gives her no choice in the matter, and no opportunity to say goodbye.

another lifelong habit. i think the first time he ever says goodbye is to sarah jane, not when he first left her in aberdeen but decades later when he met her quite by chance and she demanded it.

ah. but that's also later.

mostly, i just remember him as strangely calming. so very simple. come learn about the aztecs. come learn about the roman empire. come learn about electricity.

it all started out.....so simple.
