Deofol the devil

"Pleasure doing business with you." Very few ever have the desire to get to know Deofol. He's a wickedly intelligent coatl with full fluency in traditional draconic as well as the coatl language. He wields both with an acerbic tongue, often seeking to tear down the ideas and confidence of others. He cares little for the general politics of the clan save to cause chaos between its members. Of course, it's not like he bothers to get his own claws dirty with anything - he relies heavily on his savage mate to enact his devious plans and apply a deft claw whever he desires it.

Deofol's birth is shrouded in mystery and he prefers the keep it that way. Anyone that knows has long since disappeared and all that remains are vague rumours that he was born in the Hewn City. Whatever the case may be, Deofol quickly became known for seeing strange things and a manipulative streak a mile wide. Between his wits and physical prowess, Deofol set up a thriving black market trading system and amassed a great wealth.

Such activities do not come without their risks, however. A young pearlcatcher from the water lands came to him one day, babbling about a betrayal and the loss of his status that was to come. Tanhlyta was turned away as Deofol did not trust the words of a crazy seer. This was to be his downfall in the Sunbeam Ruins for his underworld clan betrayed him and he was forced to flee. Deofol spent many years seeking out Tanhlyta again and it was under her instruction that he should find his future mate - one who would not only protect him but also ensure him a position of grandeur once again - and gave him Synti to help guide him to Ellengaest's future parents.

Much to Deofol's disgust, his supposed mate was to be a filthy animal of a mirror, hardly suitable for him. Still, what was Deofol if not clever? He sent his familiar to seek a spirit of chaos that would serve his purposes. It was Deofol who attached Ix to Ellen, the spirit's influence shaping her personality and initial battle skills to Deofol's favour. Deofol had not counted on the interference of a clan in his plans for his mate. Deofol thought Ellen lost to him when she joined the Wildfire clan but it ended up to his benefit when they were able to temper her spirit through a change into a nocturne. While the change left her less succeptible to Ix's control, it ingrained at least minor insticts of mimicry which he knew would come in handy.

Deofol bided his time as he watched his mate be courted by others from afar. He was a patient creature - by the time he swept in she would be truly ready for him as a mate. True to his expectations, Ellen was easy for him to charm and she was all too willing to do his bidding in return for false affections and someone who could handle her nature. He proceeded to shape her battling talents further by suggesting she become a coliseum battler. The fame she has accrued from her occupation has led many to both fear and respect her - and him by association.

Through his mate's new reputation and his previous experience, Deofol has slowly begun to build another black market empire within the Ashfall Wastes. Progress has been slow due to the ever watchful eye of Bregu but Deofol is careful and crafty. The two intellectual giants in the clan are quietly at war and the environment could not suit either better.
