Smolder's family has managed a guild of metalworkers for many generations, and his grandfather is the current guildmaster. Every member of the family is required to take on a skill that will serve the guild's interests, but before they do so, they receive an excellent education to acquaint them with the possible roles they can inhabit, which are numerous.

Smolder enjoyed every lesson in creating items, though he was never able to make his own unique creations. Every example that he was shown, he would replicate to an exact degree, and this soon drew the notice of the more senior members of his family, and the guild.

While creating identical replicas of existing pieces was considered taboo, several of his great uncles and aunts suggested they use him to remake old items whose creation processes had been lost knowledge. Smolder did several of these for armor and swords while his entire work was recorded, but he soon grew to dislike it, preferring to vary his items and attempt new projects.

In his spare time he began painting forgeries of famous pieces, and when he was discovered doing this, was harshly reprimanded. The forgeries were destroyed for the sake of preserving the family's reputation, and he found this too much to take. Smolder left the same week, determined to find somewhere that he could pursue his own skills.

Smolder is currently proficient with creating exact duplicates of paintings, sculptures, wood carvings, clothing, armor, and weapons. He is always looking to expand this set of skills.
