MEET DR HELIAN ______ Yes, I've been called Dr. HELL-ion before, mostly behind my back. My temper is infamous, well, some kinds of anger can't be contained. I will not compromise on patient care. That's the tip of the claw. "Anyway, I'm Dr. HEL-ian, as in heal. Pleased to meet you." she says with a wry smile. Are you well? Is this a medical visit? Or....? "Great! Glad you feel well. I can still check your vitals." "So, you are curious about medicine and my training. I can share a bit of my background and experiences. Before my medical training, I had an illness, a virus that I carried since my hatching. Rage Virus it is called and from it springs uncontrolled RAGE and ultimately, shame or regret. Even justified anger comes at a cost. Maybe you know this already." "Dragons in my mother's clan carried the virus too. From them I learned to calm chaos in others which helped me learn how to, sometimes, dissolve my own chaos." Pausing, her eyes glaze in memory. Shaking off the past with wing shudders she continues. "The virus set me on a path to [place] searching for a diagnosis, information, treatment, or dare I hope -- a cure. The librarians helped me locate scrolls and tomes referencing the virus. I had to look up medical terms and concepts to even begin to understand the research! When the material was beyond the librarian's knowledge they introduced me to [someone] at [med school] who kindly instructed me. [someone] told me that I had an aptitude for the medical arts and I should think about becoming a student. It was transformational!" "I loved anatomy and the practical skills. The physical puzzle in surgery to repair injury or remove a cause of pain could instantly provide relief to my patient. In contrast with my own slow treatments for Rage Virus, surgery was more straightforward and quickly restorative. Studying medicine and helping others saved me. Huge surprise - the magic of The Oath neutralized the Rage Virus! |

SUBSPECIES: SURGEONS ______ Bound by an oath to the Gods, the ancestors of Surgeon dragons were the first to dedicate their lives to the pursuit of medicine. Upon swearing their oaths, these dragons are granted abilities by the Gods to help them in their detection and treatment of the ill. Enhanced resistance to disease allows them to be in close proximity to diseased dragons without being infected by pathogens. In addition, specialized scent and taste receptors allow them to pick up the scent of illnesses and analyze the composition of blood.
