A raincloud to his clan’s sunshine, Haktan is one of the senior members of the Vanguard. He’s as skilled with a sword as he is with a complaint, and he can always be relied upon to criticize, doubt, and add a voice of dissent to the conversation. He knows better than to let his grievances reach the point of insubordination, however. He does his job and does it well - he’ll simply gripe the whole time. The more lighthearted side of this tendency is evident when he chooses the smallest hills to die on, becoming theatrically angry over relatively inconsequential matters. Every trainee that passes through Clan Sunsharp needs mentorship and encouragement, yes, but Haktan’s specialty is building camaraderie through the sacred art of kvetching.

Even without his lousy disposition, he’s easy to identify among his clanmates due to his mechanically altered limbs. While the specifics of his augments are largely a private affair, his clanmates know he has little need for sleep or food, and while he possesses many mechanical advantages over his peers, the alterations done to his body bring him chronic, inconvenient pain. Still bitter about his treatment in the Lightning flight, his favorite way to make conversation is by telling horror stories from the previous company he served with. Whenever acolytes complain about running drills, his pitiless response is that their conditions could always be worse.

origins.
Haktan was once an experimental soldier in the ranks of the Stormcatcher’s exalted army. With the addition of several invasive technological enhancements, he became virtually unkillable - but this didn’t make him unbreakable. Years of taking heavy damage in battle have rendered him in need of frequent repairs, and once the cost of his upkeep outweighed his efficiency in combat, he was forcibly discharged from his squadron. Rather than retire and find other work in the Shifting Expanse, Haktan returned to the field of battle in Clan Sunsharp’s ranks. When he’s not performing his duties with the Vanguard, he can often be found in Perenth’s workshop, receiving the maintenance necessary to keep him from falling apart.
