As mild-mannered as warriors come, Kemal is a senior member of the Vanguard who desperately wishes he wasn’t. Trained on the rapier from a young age and apprenticed under a famous duelist in the region, his poise and controlled fighting style makes him exemplary in his field. More remarkable than his swordsmanship, however, is his ability to remain unruffled in stressful situations. Even among his fellow Vanguard, who train constantly to handle a crisis with composure, he’s downright zen by comparison. Kemal only reaches for his sword once he’s exhausted all other options.

One of the more easygoing members of Clan Sunsharp, he lacks his clanmates’ competitive drive to excel and is nearly impossible to offend. Negative emotions simply roll right off him - he considers them a waste of energy. Kemal has been trying to crosstrain for years, believing himself better suited for diplomacy than combat. His finesse with a rapier is a valuable asset, however, and his requests to trade in his armor for an ambassador’s cloak are continually denied by the command team.

Dissatisfied with an occupation he takes no joy in, Kemal has adopted a lackadaisical approach to his duties, which may explain why he’s so unflappable when things go wrong. This makes him a favored instructor of the apprentices passing through Clan Sunsharp - he never raises his voice or belittles his students - but he only does the bare minimum to keep them from dying in combat. If his laid back attitude crosses into negligence at times, he doesn’t fear disciplinary repercussions. Firing him would be a favor at this point.
