She is born to a large family, always filling with new mouths to feed, and she enjoys it. She has no need to be alone, and even if her parents need to go through several names to remember hers- and still get it wrong- it doesn't bother her. She's not the oldest, nor is she the youngest, still too small to care for themselves, so she and her multitude of other 'middle' siblings fade into the background until their parents remember them again. It really isn't that bad, she thinks. She's got somewhere to sleep, and someone to play games with whenever she wants, and she gets fed- even if the portions are smaller in the winter, and only marginally bigger in the summer.

Living in the Wipswillow Grove isn't nearly as bad as many people make it out to be. Sure, some of her more... eclectic family are often losing themselves out in the woods, and she can hear them calling for her siblings, for her, and giggling, but she knows better than to go chasing them down, not unless she wants to join them. Some of her older siblings do; join the choir in the trees and leave her mother staring out at them each night, waiting for someone to step back into the moonlight from the shadows of the trees before she goes to sleep each night, but all any of them ever see are the eerie glowing eyes.




Odebix falls for it, eventually. It's perhaps an ingrained thing, living her entire life in the Shadowlands, but eventually the family she has amongst the trees stops sounding creepy and starts sounding... comforting. They offer her space, time alone, enough food she would never go hungry, safety. Her favorite sisters voice promises games like when they were hatchlings, and as the nights pass, she finds herself lingering longer at the edge of the forest, long after her mother has retreated to the nest with her father and newest baby siblings.

She doesn't remember joining the Forest. She doesn't remember her time in the Forest. She doesn't remember the way she was changed, covered in the shadows of the Forest, becoming ever changing like the ocean, dark and unfathomable.

When she wakes, she's on the ocean edge of the Grove. Far from her family's nest in the heart of it, body and lungs aching as if she had run all the way here and collapsed, and covered in... something that won't come off, no matter how many times she dunks herself into the sea.

• Her favorite color is Slate, followed closely by Midnight.
• She doesn't want a big family, and is very comfortable with either not having any children at all, or only having a few children.
• She's nearly been taken by the Forest many times in her childhood, and purposefully offered herself up to it for a brief stint when she was a young woman. She still isn't sure how she got out, nor how long she was in there, only that she feels... older, and that she can't go back to where she came from.
