there is no wrong way to find your faith, so they say. no, he did not go through the proper channels - this was no churchgoing hatchling sent off to seminary school. hymns never sprang unbidden to his lips; the bowed act of prayer was not muscle memory.

this was faith born out of necessity - the moorings of a soul cut loose and in dire need of a dock. he sought the ancient peace of the divine, found comfort in cathedralic stillness. art and color restored themselves in the form of scripture and stained glass.

yet there is darkness even here, in this wellspring of light and truth. bloody secrets hidden beneath white cowls, monsters in the crypt. to be holy is to be alone - loving the gods means loving no one else. thou shalt not find home in others. should he have to choose...well, let's hope it will not come to that.
