SERENE STARLIT SHORES

──────────────────────────────────────

Relaxation is an important lesson...
You come to the shore of a large lake, standing in the break of the treeline that otherwise surrounds it. The leaves on the trees are bright, light blues and golds circling above the lake like a halo. The darkness of the night becomes almost soothing against the gentle glow of the fireflies flitting about closer to the water's edge.

The quietness of the lake mesmerises you. Casting your gaze just beyond the edge of the shore, you notice that the trees never seem to run out of petals, despite the constant slow fall of them, like snow on a calm morning. Furthermore, you notice that as the petals reach the fireflies, the fireflies begin to twirl around them, almost an invitation, and briefly the leaves join them in their gentle golden glow before vanishing into the night.

Looking into the lake itself, the glows of the leaves and fireflies illuminates the water enough to see how clear it is: the water still enough for you to see the leaves reflected in it, and a blue deeper than you'd known before, so beautifully deep that you wish you'd found this place during the day so it would be warm enough to dive into its depths and become awash with such a perfect blue.

Guiding yourself to sit and almost lie on the ground, you turn your gaze skyward. The night sky is a sea, awash with the countless stars that dot it with light, and as you look a little closer you can see that the spaces in-between the stars have taken on a dark blue of their own, and you wonder for a moment if you're just looking the stars reflected on another lake's water.

A gentle breeze rolls through, causing the trees to quietly shake and movement to come to the lake again; despite its size, the movement of the water makes no more sound than the whisper of a babbling brook just out of sight. Further calmed by the scene, you close your eyes...

And take a few moments...

To just...

Breathe...

You open your eyes again. The stars have changed their positions in the sky, and you realise that you fell asleep at the water's edge. You should probably find a bed.

Rising to move, a thought takes root in your mind, and without fully knowing why, you bow your head as a sign of respect to the lake. As your turn to leave, you feel something shift in the air. You feel the lake's attention settle on you, a warm regard, before it gently flows away.

As you start to leave, the fireflies flit around and ahead of you, leading you back to the path you took to the lake and guiding you back down it, and once you come back out from the start of the path, each firefly flies around you to gently brush against your cheeks in warm kisses before leaving to return to the lake, and you resolve to return as soon as you can, for more nights sleeping by the shore.
