Story
Nalki carefully browses the library. She’s happy her clan has this huge collection of books to look through, especially whenever she finds something new. Nalki loves scavenging, and sometimes she finds things that she just cannot identify without some book knowledge. Like today, today she has found a beautiful gemstone, pure in color, like a diamond. But not as hard as diamond. And not as soft as quartz. Nalki has no idea what it’s supposed to be, so she looks through multiple books about gemstones to hopefully find it.But, after an entire afternoon and evening of browsing, Nalki hasn’t found anything yet. She’s hungry, and she’s tired, so she decides to give up and try again tomorrow. Nalki heads home, strange gemstone in her paws. Time for some food! After a good meal, Nalki goes to bed at an early hour, all that staring at books got her sleepy. She ends up taking the gemstone with her to her sleeping spot, putting it next to her before closing her eyes. She’d rather keep it close to her, since she doesn’t know what it is. Nalki drifts off easily, and is asleep within minutes.
As Nalki opens her eyes, she is no longer inside of her lair. Instead, she is in a dark and damp place, and laying down on a hard and cold floor. She glances around, still groggy from her deep sleep. There’s a single candle burning, but it’s just out of reach. And behind a set of metal bars. Is she in jail? Is this a cell? Whatever happened? Nalki was sleeping in her lair, right? She looks around her some more, and notices the odd gemstone lying next to her, pulsating with light. Is this all because of that stupid gemstone? Nalki feels her annoyance grow, and reaches out towards the stone.
That’s when she notices, that isn’t her paw. This isn’t her body at all.
