Biography
Rone, the Wielder of Cortura
I am Rone, former lord of the land. Not this land, of course. Like the dragon Finder, I am not of this world. Unlike Finder, I can recollect my past.
As a child, I lived in a small desert village. I had two close friends: Loras, a kind, beautiful girl two years younger than me, and Oelem, her older brother. One day, we went to a white beach and started exploring. By chance, we came across some old ruins half-buried in the sand. Naturally, we looked around. I found a magnificent white staff, and Loras and I began to play with it. Oelem was jealous and went off to find a treasure of his own.
Loras and I pretended to battle. I waved around the staff like a sword and Loras brandished a stick. And then... I'm not sure what happened. Ice crystals shot out of the staff and embedded themselves in Loras's heart. I had... killed my friend. It was an accident - but when Oelem came back after hearing my shout, he didn't believe me. Oelem was an intelligent, creative boy, but he was always too quick to jump to conclusions. He said that I had murdered Loras, and then he ran back to the village to spread his tale.
I knew I had to go after him and defend myself, but I couldn't just leave Loras. I pulled the crystals out of - out of her body. She looked like she had simply fallen asleep. A tear slid down my cheek and I ran after Oelem.
I don't know why I brought the staff with me, but when I arrived at my village, a crowd of people was standing outside, waiting for me. Oelem had already told them his lie.
Oelem's mother recognized the staff as Cortura, a weapon from an ancient poem. She was angry that her daughter was dead, and she took her anger out on me. I was accused of murder and banished from the village. I had nowhere else to go, so I returned to the ruins. I was weakened by my grief and anger, so the power within the staff, which had been contained for so long, escaped through me. It transformed me physically, but the power also froze over my mind. I wasn't really Rone. I was Cortura.
Through me, Cortura's power grew. Eventually it was strong enough to freeze the entire southern region of the world, and still it was growing. There was a war, a terrible war, the ended in my defeat. The staff was broken, and it took me with it as it died.
And then I woke up here, in Sornieth. I don't know why, but I came here as a dragon. The same happened with Finder, although he was a dragon to begin with.
I'm not evil. Cortura can't influence me here, although, as you see, my appearance is still icy.
Though I am part of his clan, Finder does not know of our history. I am glad of this, for in the land of Anglameth, I was the cause of his death.
Sornieth is a very nice place, but the best thing I've discovered so far is Loras. She, like Finder, does not remember her previous life. However, also like Finder, she has one word in her mind, and that word is my name: Rone. She recognized me as soon as she met me, although she was unsure of how she did.
