"Please, you shouldn't be around me.."

Alaric had failed his Second Trial not by choice but from another force. He had been perched so high, so wonderfully close to the stars, and had been blessed with the infection on his final day- it was a wonderful feeling, to become infected, and with so little time left to be so. His cousin too, had become infected, which was a blessing in itself- their crew wouldn't need to be separated then! But not all that is gained is good, and Alaric had been unlucky. He had been touched by another dragon, whose eyes were swirling and with utterings under their breath of things that they could see. He could not fight both the blessed infection and the intense developing ability to see so much more information. His mind could only focus on one thing, and in the end, when his mind attempted to focus on the preternatural perception- it gave up the focus on keeping the infection at bay. And so, with his eyes blind, he had fallen into the depths of madness.

Alaric remembers nothing of his time as a Ghoul, only that his body had formed a deadly stinger to transfer the infection mindlessly- his eyes too blurred and swirled to focus on what he was attacking and spreading to. It wasn't his fault, the things that he had done, not when he couldn't tell the difference between his fractured mind and the information of the world around him. It must have been Mother's doing then, that he had stumbled into Priscilla. She, too, had been blessed with the infection. But unlike him, she passed her trials with flying colors. It took some time, and oftentimes Priscilla seemed more interested in the sickness that dripped from Alaric's stinger- but with the help of another Ghoul- one so very different from himself, one more in control of both her vision and her illness- the pain had ended. Still blessed, but no longer dangerous. No longer swirling.

Nowadays, Alaric's vision is almost completely gone. At times, he still finds himself struggling to tell what is real and what is not. But thanks to the help of Priscilla, he has accepted his new role as her helper- packing and handling the more infectious diseases that she experiments with. Thistle is more than happy to take on the testing of the mutations, but Mother forbid such things are ever released into the wild of the wound! Thankfully, storing such diseases in his now empty sacs within his stinger provides a wonderful form of transportation- though the sorting still takes some time.
