Biography
__._ |
Guardians are known for their protecting their charges. The search to find one can last anywhere from years to decades, and the identity of the charge is almost always unknown until its discovery. Charges are unpredictable, Alistair had learned this as a hatchling. He expected that his own charge could be just about anything. What he didn't expect was the frustration he felt along his journey. He had heard stories from others of his species as he wandered. Tales of recognizing their charge, and feeling whole. Like they had finally discovered their purpose. He yearned for this sense of completion. His surroundings changed as the search led him out of the scarred wasteland once again, the land of rot and decay slowly transforming into an unfamiliar terrain of cursed forest. Alistair continued his journey tirelessly, only stopping for food and drink when needed. His perception of time seemed to blur as he covered more distance, which went unnoticed by the Guardian. Finding his charge was all that mattered. The trees began to lessen, and the forest floor he walked upon morphed into parched earth. Alistair wandered forward into the shattered plains of Dragonhome. For the first time in what seemed like years, Alistair felt that he was making progress. The light of cold, distant stars guided him across a sea of dunes, until he saw what seemed to be the warm glow of campfires in the distance. His heart skipped a beat. For so long, he had wandered Sornieth in search of his charge. The call of the search had lead him through lands and situations he never dreamed of being in. Years had passed since he left his birth clan, and it had all lead to this moment. After clearing the distance between him and the collection of tents and structures, he was greeted by a sign nailed to a wooden post driven into the sand. "Expedition Base Camp" it read. Curious, he began to explore the settlement. There was a collection of merchants selling their wares in a marketplace of sorts, their goods ranging from rare minerals to freshly cooked meals. Dragons of varying species were going about their business, some stopping to observe the unfamiliar Guardian wander through their home. "Excuse me?" An unfamiliar voice cut through Alistair's thoughts. He searched for its origin, until he noticed a Fae staring at him from a nearby shelter. Lanternlight illuminated her, she was dressed elegantly compared to his own set of skeletal armour. Yet, there was something about her that seemed to radiate power, in a way Alistair had never experienced before. Just who was she? "I'm surprised the sentry didn't notice you approaching us, normally Eros is on top of that. What brings you here? My name is Bastet. It seems like you're a long way from home. Do you want something to eat?" Alistair was taken aback by a startling realization, and Bastet's voice seemed to fade away as his mind began to race. No longer would he wander through the world, following a call that seemed to never get any closer. His search had come to an end. | ___ |
