Ukhai was found as an egg in the wilds of the dark territories her species comes from, as was her nest-brother. Their nest-mother had abandoned the nest as other dragons invaded the forests, and while Ukhai holds no grudges, she now ensures all of the new arrivals to her clan are put under another dragon's wings until they find their path. Among other things, she is also a nest-mother herself, and holds a deep affection for each of her hatchlings- even if their paths lead to serving the Tidelord.
As Ukhai grew, she realized that there was something not quite right about her- her mind was constantly plagued by a thick haze of pain, and she found that little aided in easing it save for the dark and quiet of her own lair. After Haumiaroa, Ysaly and Hajari all examined her, they came to the conclusion that it was simply a condition that she had been hatched with. _____
She is weary these days. The sounds of the water surrounding her that once served to soothe her are now only serving to put her on edge. Was there ever a day that she had not felt this way? She couldn't remember any longer.
Leading the tribe was a heavy burden upon her wings. In the years that she had held the position, it only ever seemed to grow a greater weight. She was not meant for this role, she knows. She can feel it within her chest as surely as the tides change and the winds blow. But for so long, she has been clan-mother, tribe-mother. She has not had time to find Ukhai beyond the emotional capacity. She has been there for the tribe. She exhales deeply, a deep ache at the back of her skull alerting her to the tell-tale signs of her growing ailment. Haumiaroa and Ysaly have assure her that it is not dangerous to her, nor will it cause her death. It is simply a pain that ebbs and flows, occasionally causing small lights to flicker in her gaze. Those days she seeks the quiet of her lair, the comforts of her furs and nest as she rests and recovers. |
