sayo
empress of the withdrawn, clan of the freezing primevals
reliable | orderly | truthful
two birds

"Dura lex, sed lex." (the law is harsh, but it's the law)
— Roman maxim

Sayo, despite being the clan's empress, is one of the most approachable dragons you can find within the clan of the Freezing Primeval. From the moment you meet her, her polite, humble demeanor is unmistakable. Although she will lay down the law when needed, she is typically a very reserved dragon. Most days she spends helping others with simple tasks, and prefers to let Obsidian manage the clan's day to day business. While she believes you should only voice your opinions when required, she is open to listening to others. Regularly, Sayo finds herself deep in thought, reflecting the many opinions of clan members. She is often seeking to help improve the clan with the knowledge of the community and their opinions, keeping order balanced to the best of her abilities. She desires to keep the clan well-maintained, and will influence Obsidian to adjust laws when she feels it is necessary. Unlike Obsidian, Sayo always tries to see things from an unbiased standpoint, as she feels it is a necessity as a leader, and wants to make up for Obsidian's lack of concern. While Sayo stands at the top of the ranks, many dragons share mixed feelings of the nocturne, believing it is unjust for an outsider to attain the power she has. It is obvious from her mannerisms that she does not have the same mindset as the majority of ice dragons, however she stands strongly by her beliefs and has no shame with being different. She depends strongly on Obsidian for support, which some view as weakness, which would completely violate the clan's belief that the strong will survive. Regardless, Sayo is resilient, and although she may prefer to stay within what she knows and is typically wary of anything else, Obsidian sees the strength within her, whether she sees it or not.

Whispers. That was all Sayo remembered of her family. Short, hushed, inaudible whispers and lighthearted giggles. Like all nocturnes, Sayo was able to mimic these soft whispers, the one memory she clung desperately to. Often times when Sayo found herself deep in thoughts, the whispers would reverberate through her head almost hauntingly, but Sayo found deep comfort in the sound.
Sayo, like most generation ones, was born an orphan. The whispers were the one companion she had, the hushed voices that had soothed her, even in her egg.

"You don't trust me?" Obsidian smiled, his voice almost challenging the nocturne as he gazed into her eyes. Sayo flushed, turning away from him, her voice softening, "It's nothing personal, it's just... my nature" The male stirred, his weight shifting beneath him, his eyes locked on Sayo. "Your nature?" he smiled, "Coming from the shadow dragon that defies all I know of shadow dragons?" he glared into the distance, pausing for a moment, "..you weren't always that way though?" She stared at the ground listening to his words before meeting his gaze, "No" she breathed, exhaling as she spoke. Obsidian's expression softened, "You will be safe with me," he whispered, "I will never let anyone hurt you again"

It was dark outside, which was a rare spectacle in Ashfall Waste. I closed my eyes for a second, breathed, the moment of peace eased my body and mind. I was deep in the canyons of Harpy's Roost, searching for ore. A towering boulder sheltered me, the night sky sparkled through the opening. I had hoped that I would be lucky and find some silver or gold, although at this point I would be gracious for anything. The night would provide some defense, and I definitely had more of an edge with being able to work under the moonlight. Ore was in such a demand, one piece I could trade for an entire bag of treasure or even a couple gems. I needed the money, if I wanted to continue traveling, or soon I would be staring and broke.
After exploring the canyons for what seemed like hours, I was starting to lose hope. The canyons seemed empty, which I should've expected considering word got out about dragons digging here long ago, and many came with the same hopes as I. Whatever though, I'm here now and I can't afford to not find anything. This has to be successful. I looked forward, and suddenly a tiny flint of blue lit up in the dark. Seeing the shimmer of blue replenished my motivation, I quickly made my way down the path, but it had disappeared. I looked around frustrated, I was sure this is where I saw it. Suddenly, I turned, seeing a small dodo, frozen, besides the fact it was quivering as it hyperventilated. I turned, but a pang of guilt struck my core. Maybe I could trade the dodo for something, it was better than walking out empty handed anyways. I gently held the young bird with my wings, its bioluminescent esca glowing a beautiful blue. It made a small whimpering sound, and instantly I decided that this dodo was more than an item for a small pocket of treasure.
I named them Esca, after their antennae-like orb. Esca was very shy at first, but now, they have no problem letting me know when they're upset. They have accompanied me with all of my travels, and would climb onto my back when tired. Although Esca was not happy when Obsidian came along, they have grown a liking for him, or at least a toleration. I was nervous the weather would be too frigid, so I bundled them in an elk's pelt and they actually enjoy the snow.
