Biography
Eccentrics abound! Datalink may hail from the Windswept Plateau but he'd always been a tinkerer, fashioning little constructs with his tail wrapped around his pearl to keep it from rolling away. Eventually, he departed for the Shifting Expanse in search of like-minded dragons. Along the way he crossed paths with a young Guardian on her Search and decided to follow her. He is now her right-hand dragon and closest confidant, and a voice of logic and reason to the clan. But he is an inventor first and foremost, and not long after establishing the lair with Tiamat and the Tundra healer Rutherienne, he dug himself a workshop and set out gathering various objects to build wind-driven mechanisms. The early days of said workshop were not very productive, due to his familiar crashing into tables and breaking things. The Rambra has since learned to use its hard head to break ore into smaller pieces, making them easier for Datalink to melt.
There is one incident that no one speaks of, which involved Datalink, a saltpeter-like compound, and constructing blasting caps for future lair expansion. He escaped relatively unscathed but his pearl cracked from the force of the explosion hurling it into the wall. He never said anything about it but whenever dragons come visiting, he always hides the crack with his foot or tail.
The arrivals of like-minded Ancalagon and the immensely helpful Helena have made building blasting caps much safer, though Tiamat demands they only be built when the lair needs expanding. In the meantime the trio focuses on building toys for hatchlings and augments to the clan's training grounds; Datalink is now thinking of harnessing the electricity traveling through the cables to capture the light.
"Aren't you weaker against the light?" Tiamat asks when he tells her of his plans.
"And stronger against lightning," he points out. "There must be a way to capture the light of the lightning storms and the electricity that runs through the Lightning Farm cables. To think that we can engineer great things and yet can only generate light by setting something on fire!"
"Just don't smoke us out," she says.
"As I recall, that only happened once and it happened before I built in new safety measures and taught Rambra not to keep butting things that get in its way."
They both look at Rambra, who snorts and then tries to charge Tiamat's familiar.
