Thanatos always strove for more. As soon as he was able to, he went to his grandparents for further training, thinking that he could harness the power of the Voidsoul better under direct tutelage. But it wasn't enough to satisfy him. He didn't feel the level of strength that he thought he should have. He began to experiment; combining the alchemical knowledge from Irina with other techniques from Konstantin.

He went as far as to change his form, as he felt his original ancient gaoler body wasn't enough to combat those that Lurked in the Dark. His new form allowed for flight. He might have been smaller now, but he saw this as an advantage. This alone was not enough for Thanatos, however. He sought to do more.

The original Dark Stalkers warned him against chasing this power further. After all, it was Konstantin's drive for strength that cursed his bloodline in the first place.

He didn't listen.

Instead, he began to work in secret. The others didn't approve of what he was doing, but that wasn't about to stop him. He'd slip away, gathering and testing potential reagents in a manner not unlike what his grandmother did. And for what seemed like countless nights, he seemingly made no progress. Still, he wouldn't give up.

One moonless night, he found his answer. Thanatos imbibed his newly brewed elixir. Immediately, he felt a surge of power coursing through him. It felt exhilarating. But something was wrong. The Voidsoul within bubbled up and began to overflow. It started to warp him. Twist him.

His soul screamed, and yet he smiled.
