So he tucks the dark anxious snarled knots of himself all inside bones he lines in steel, plates in armor. So he gets a little too close (and sometimes when there’s a Maren at his throat he feels a little of the shivering fear dart up in his stomach, choking his breath a little short), so he smiles, all silver tongue, arrogant star, delight and curiosity and blooming affections, so he is better than what they expect to see: He is the defender they deserve, the dauntless warrior he does not feel, the hero and the perfect camaraderie cutting himself into pieces and tying himself all together again..
