The greatest of the lights in the sky traverses from horizon to horizon every single day, all the planet's denizens swarming underneath it. What we call the sun is but one of millions of tiny lights in the sky from the perspective of any other, yet we crowd in its warm and gracious light like Moths to a Honeyed Flame. Cross your fingers that it never goes out.

╭━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╮ "Um, so, how do you think he died?" ╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯ Forensics is hard. Having nobody to talk to is harder. Beloved really doesn't mean to be a nag, but they've started bouncing ideas off the corpses some time last fall, and it really makes the bereaved family members uncomfortable. Or maybe that's all of their extraneous eyes. It's hard to tell, really. Being named 'Beloved' makes it really difficult to conceptualize of why people may dislike you. Anyway, the point is, they like to chat, and they rarely have the opportunity unless they bait the local coroner into an argument by pretending not to know what the difference between a vivisection and an autopsy is. This has led to some awkward situations, but it's worked itself out so far. It's not often that you come across a death investigator who can absorb text by literally eating the books and also see in wavelengths inaccessible to most of dragonkind, so Beloved is fairly certain of their own job security. They're less certain of how to appropriately ask the skeptical, rude, egotistical, antisocial, and really incredibly charming coroner out for a flight, and the corpses are straight out of ideas for that one. Not even the blood splatter patterns offer any insight, and those are usually very telling! Ah, well. They'll figure it out eventually. For now, they've found a delightfully misleading new article on embalming techniques that is sure to annoy her into speaking to them. |
