Dante is the brains behind Brightspire Clan's defenses. Not only does he plan out the major patrol routes with his best friend Kelmarin, he's prone to tinkering around with elaborate traps and warning systems to help keep the Clan safe.
Although brilliant, he's also a bit absent-minded and prone to jumping from one project to another. He's also not that great at telling the other dragons and familiars exactly what he's done to help keep them safe. When one of his alarms go off, it's often a startled Clanmate who didn't know about that specific tripwire.
Neither his mate Vermilion nor their shared Serthis familiar Shezzran will let him forget how he failed to tell them about the trap that left the Ridgeback covered in honey and nettle, and Shezzran stranded in a ring of livewires. In the entrance to their own lair.
Despite these... mishaps, Dante's inventions have also caught predatory wildlife sneaking up on unwary hatchlings and unwatched nests, Beastclan attackers trying to raid the Clan's storehouses, and alerted the warriors to dragon trespassers. As a warrior, he's not a great fighter when it comes to brute strength. It's his skill as a battle mage and ability to anticipate the possible outcomes that makes him formidable. Between his healing spells and his lightning blasts, he's as accomplished a soldier as his mate and best friend.
From defenses that pump sleeping gases into the tunnels to lighting systems illuminating the night to timed patrols that cover every square foot of their territory (as well as that of their reluctantly-allied Maren school), it's all thanks to Dante's handiwork. The Clan owes a lot to the jittery little tactician - quirks and all.
