A seer's daughter shuffles tarot cards with well-practiced ease, her eyes locked onto something in the distance of the alpine plains that is too far to be seen. She is broken out of her reverie when a card slips from her deck, landing on the worn boards of her house's wooden porch. Sirene plucks the card from the ground, and frowns as she rubs the smooth surface between a finger and her thumb. The Hierophant card. A card representing spirituality, obedience, and caution; when reversed, it indicates an unnecessary rebellion, and a self-destructive departure from tradition. Sirene's eyes drift back to the plains, as she searches for something that only exists in her dreams. Rebellion, huh. . . There is no dragon that likes rules more than Hierophant. A stickler for the law, the Hierophant acts as a self-appointed travelling sheriff. He makes a game out of learning the most obtuse, confusing, and oldest laws of whatever places he visits and tattling on anyone who breaks them. He is morally righteous, though he lacks a clear internal sense of right and wrong; he is utterly convinced that laws dictate morality, and since he is the most lawful a dragon could be. he is the most morally upstanding. When he grows hungry, he hunts for criminals; from the most deranged murderer to the jaywalker or juvenile loiterer, no-one is safe from his judgement. He draws them into a place between waking and sleeping, a cold field of fog and swaying frost-touched grasses, and torments until they confess to something worthy of death. The cleverest dragons can escape by turning the Hierophant's rules back on him, and convincing him it's more morally appropriate to let them go; but for most, the sheer panic gets the best of them, and they are devoured.
