Faron's Story I

Faron's memories of who and what it had been were foggy at best and confusing at worst, best not to think about it.

Now Faron roamed the swamp it had been... Brought to? Didn't matter. Many beasts and monsters were here, but it had forgotten how to leave. Besides, it could survive so long as it adjusted.

Little round dragons lived here, Faron had seen them from time to time. They did not grow, that was certain. Sometimes it wondered if they would survive here, but the hatchlings always seemed to reappear eventually, they must know more than one would assume.

Faron would watch them sometimes, to make sure they were safe it supposed, never for long.

The little dragons could now be seen with an elder dragon, they were not the elder's clutch, that much he knew, but that didn't seem to be how the other dragon viewed things. Faron had rarely seen an animal raising offspring other than its own. This dragon was a fool then, the Cuckoo birds were deceptive and these hatchlings were not, so how the dragon had fallen for the little hatchling's tricks... Faron was unsure.

Faron still saw them from time to time, the elder dragon was the kind it had seen before, they carried little orbs around. The dragon was quite large compared to its brethren and seemed to be a capable fighter. The round ones could eat plants like Faron, and the elder seemed to spend much time finding vegetables and fruits in the swamp for the young ones to eat. They were thriving it would appear. Faron had become fond of them through its observations. This made it happy.

A small purple batlike dragon had appeared, Faron wasn't sure when, just that it had. It was wearing flashy clothing and was extremely loud when it spoke, despite this it still seemed very capable of being stealthy when it wanted to.

Faron rarely had the urge to approach them, but it knew it wasn't capable of the same things others were, it knew language and understood social interaction, but it couldn't bring itself to speak and understand them like it knew it should be able to. Faron knew the purple bat-like one was becoming aware of his presence when they ran into each other.

It had come to know a feeling it had rarely felt quite well in more recent days. Jealousy. The little bat-like dragon brought sickly sweet-smelling treats to the others about once every full moon and rough-housed with the hatchlings. The Elder dragon seemed to find much joy in providing food and safety for the hatchlings. Faron knew how it had been before, the hatchlings had roamed looking desperately for food and shelter, only to be chased out by the creatures of the swamp. It wasn't the hatchlings it was jealous of, but the bat and elder. They supported each other, they made each other happy and safe. Faron wanted that.

The batlike one was so close to figuring Faron out, its presence had become constant and it knew it, it couldn't bring itself to leave though. It had thought that leaving them would make it feel better but that made it wish for connection even more than when it could at least observe them. Faron was terrified of them seeing it and chasing it off, but it was even more scared of approaching them.
