As a variant of the Jewelry Box Fae that falls under the "gold" subcategory, Baltin is a fair bit more animate than your typical JBF. To this end, it seems to have picked up a knack for hoarding other jewelry like itself and other such valuable trinkets; it only felt natural, then, for it to progress to a life on the open seas. Though its crew began small, initially consisting of only itself and its now-lost cousin Petalite, they nonetheless became notorious hoarders and thieves of anything shiny, and with each successful plunder the crew only grows larger in number, as other overzealous seafarers aim to lay claim to their spoils and portions of said spoils spring to life like Baltin itself.

In truth, that's exactly why Baltin started the crew—due to its inability to speak, communicating with non-JBF dragons is extremely awkward for it even with the enchanted book it keeps as a communications device, and as a result it's a very lonely & socially anxious dragon. So in an attempt to solve this, it goes and finds other jewelry to bring to life as fellow JBF like itself. Petalite was its first successful "convert", hence them referring to each other as cousins. A small group of non-JBF have become aware of Baltin's predicament by word of mouth, and joined its crew to befriend it in spite of the limitations; other dragons, such as the militant detective Meshia, remain oblivious to the truth behind its motives and pursue the crew for their rampant theft. Currently in a loving, albeit long-distance, relationship with a certain street performer it met stowed away on its ship once; now they're the light and joy of its life, and it their precious jewel. Christodoulou and Fuli were born from some of Aha's rings, as a living testament to the dragons' unwavering devotion to one another.
