Biography
Gerben was finishing brewing a health potion when he heard knocking on the door.
When he opened the door, he saw Doubs with a young, greyscale colored Spiral. He saw her for the very first time.
"Say hi to Cecilie" Doubs presented the Spiral to him "She decided to learn some potion making, and y'know, there's no one better in that craft than you..."
"Yeah... I..." But before Gerben could finish his thought, Doubs has left his small workshop, without Cecilie who stayed here.
When Gerben snapped out of initial shock, he just sighed loudly and returned to the cauldron, just as if nothing happened, seemingly ignoring the existence of the greyscale Spiral.
At least until she did not squealed quietly "Master, what are you doing here in that huge pot?"
"Not master, just Gerben, okay?" He answered quickly, all the time focused on the cauldron.
"You did not answer my question!"
"You'll learn everything in time" he said calmly, at the same time starting to stir in cauldron more energetically "Now, look around until I will finish... in a few whiles I think... just don't touch anything."
Not even a minute passed when Gerben heard a sound of breaking glass. He probably never flew as fast as at the moment when he realized with horror that it's his bottles with ingredients. He saw the Spiral among two or three broken bottles, all were most likely empty before breaking.
He swept the floor, without even a single word but he frowned at Cecilie.
Then, he took two small bottles, one with sliced Aether Cherries and the other had some Lucky Star leaves and put them on the table, next to a small pot. And then, he poured some water into the pot.
Cecilie was absolutely focused on watching everything what Gerben was doing.
"Here, put in the pot as many slices as you think it should be there." he said when he gave her a bottle of sliced Aether Cherries
"No book? I thought potions should be made from recipes?"
"Remember one thing, books and mind are important but the best potions are made with heart" saying that, he took the bottle with Lucky Star leaves, emptied it all out onto a small plate, took four of them, put them in the pot and put the unused leaves back to the bottle.
"See? Now do the same with your bottle." he passed her the small plate.
Cecilie chose two biggest slices of Aether Cherries and carefully put them in the pot. Gerben added two heaped spoons of sugar and put the pot on a fireplace. Then he gave her the spoon and told her to stir the mixture until it will have a very strong purple color.
Suddenly, Gerben clearly felt a very minute change in energy he really did not like. His antennae started to vibrate gently while he was trying to target the source. Cecilie did not notice anything, she was still focused on stirring the potion. After a while, she noticed her mentor is interested in something else.
"Hey, master, is everything okay?" she asked but got no answer. He was too absorbed with identifying this barely discernible - even for him - magic signal. But then it started to become stronger and stronger. In a while he was able to fully read the magic signature - low level Shade's Changeling and it's getting closer and closer. They're masters of hiding their actual magic signature... but even they can't hide their magic identity from Gerben.
When the magic signal became so strong, that in normal conditions should be noticeable to dragons even with weaker magic perception, they heard knocking on the door. Cecilie looked through a spyhole and saw... Doubs on the other side of door. Seeing familiar face, she happily opened the door, despite the fact that Gerben tried to stop her.
"Oh, hey Doubs!" She started to talk excitedly "Y'know what, find me a new mentor, this one's... too distant, weird and not really somedragon who likes to talk."
Gerben felt a little pain in heart. "She does know nothing about me!" he thought. And yet, he pushed her away from Doubs and told her this is not who she think he is. Then he took his cane and leveled it at Doubs.
"You better go away or my face will be the last thing you will ever see. I know what you are."
"Not without that Spiral" Doubs hissed, partially revealing his true nature "You fool, you think you can defeat me? You can't even control your spells!"
"And so what? Does that make me a weaker mage?" Gerben seemed to be unimpressed. He cast a spell but it turns out to be only a few sparks shooting from the cane. Changeling Doubs jumped and easily brought Gerben down. Cecilie seeing what's happening, took the small pot in which she and her mentor were making the potion of Aether Cherries and Lucky Star leaves and poured the entire contents onto Changeling Doubs who nearly immediately hissed horribly and turned into a pile of black dust.
"He may be not the best mentor but it still doesn't mean you can treat him like that!" Cecilie screamed at the pile of dust.
Gerben sat by the wall. Cecilie sat near him.
"I need to tell you something..." he started "First of all, thank you. And I'm so sorry that I seemed too cold-hearted for you. Too long I've been called that weird one and laughed at just because I feel more than an average dragon. And because I have a hard time controlling my spells and I thought it'd be better to be wary about every new dragon I meet."
"I need to say sorry too" she looked at him "Now as I know the truth, I regret what I said to that copy of Doubs."
"I forgive you" he said, and then he stood up and started looking through bottles on the shelf "Alright, confession time is over, now it's potion time!"
He put 3 small bottles on the table.
"What about Fallen Star, Manaweed and Clover?"
"Oh!" Cecilie squeaked excitedly "I know that one, Happiness and Luck! My favourite!"
"Ah, you know more than I thought!"
...
On the next day, the real Doubs came to Gerben's potions workshop. He saw two dragons by a cauldron.
"Ah, I see you have an apprentice! It's been a while, huh? Where did you find her?"
"What's this question even... you brought her here yesterday" Gerben tilted his head and looked surprised at Doubs
"Weird, I have no memory of doing that"
"OH MY GODS-"
This was the moment when Gerben realized a thing - at that moment when Doubs supposedly came here with Cecilie, he was feeling the same low-level Shade's Changeling magic signature nearby. What does this mean? Did somedragon sent her to find his weak spots? But if this would be true, he'd know about it in a few minutes at most, he'd feel she's trying to hide something... but there was nothing. All her intentions were clear.
