Fieldstone remembered the force of the twisting crescendo. She wanted to prove herself, face the greatest challenge a wind dragon can face, look the storm straight in the eye, and yet, all she feels now is cold, dark, loneliness.

But she felt a pull, a force she felt stronger than herself. Her body was weak, but her spirit sang a song. A song of endurance, a song of willpower, a song of magic. As she got closer, deeper, darker, the pull got stronger. It sang to her like a sirens song. She felt like she should be afraid, but she felt no fear.

This was her true test. It wasn’t the twisting crescendo.

It was the ocean.

And it spoke to her of a future, of destiny, and of belonging.

She knew what she had to do.

With her lungs screaming for air, she plunged into the deepest of the abyss, where no dragon has ever gone before, or so she thought.

The next thing she knew, she was pulled out from the water all at once. She breathed. The air felt unusually sharp, like her body was no longer used to the crispness in her chest. She heaved and coughed and sputtered.

“You’re like me.”

A voice sounded from above. She looked up weakly to see a large purple imperial staring down at her. He wore long silky robes, and she could sense the strong magic that clung in the air around him. “What do you.. mean…?” She spoke softly. They were nothing alike. She was a small skydancer, and he was a huge imperial. He had purple scales, her black, yellow and blue, she had wind eyes, and he had shadow. That was when she realized where she was. The glowing blue mushrooms and the purple grass was unmistakable.

“I’m in.. Shadow..?”

Before she could process what was going on more he spoke again, excitedly. “I’m.. I’m not alone! You felt it right? It drew you in, it spoke to you, it transformed you, just like me, you’re like me”.

“What..??”

“Look!” He pointed to her scales. Dark grey ripples flowed where pure black scales used to be. They twisted and turned like a tide of pure energy was within her. She looked up at him again even more confused when she noticed the same twirling waves in his. “I, don’t understand..”

“Come.” He gestured with his tail for her to follow. “Come with me, and I’ll tell you everything I know.”
