Kūnlún's willingness to get down and dirty means he's the perfect candidate for familiar care. It's not exactly the most glamorous job - from mud baths to collecting droppings for fertiliser, Kūnlún does it all. The familiars love him too - his deep, lilting voice and patient humming can pacify even the grumpiest Scaleback. Any familiars who have been brought back by gatherers go to him, except for the beastclans - Kūnlún detests the entire war nonsense and will immediately shoo them out, despite ardent protests from self-styled beastclan ambassadors that valiantly attempt to trade goods with the Manor.

Kūnlún has cultivated an actively thoughtful and caring personality. He's learned from previous encounters with scared or angry wildlife that the gentlest touch is often the most effective, and has trained himself to be calm and perceptive while around the familiars. The Fire temperament still shines through occasionally, usually redirecting into passion or perseverance towards his work. Very rarely does Kūnlún completely lose his temper, but his rages are never something to be trifled with, even for a Guardian-sized Wartoad.

The annual urge to return to the Ashfall Wastes hits all the clan's Coatls hard, but none so much as Kūnlún. When breeding season comes, it's only Ingrid's calming frost that lets him keep a clear head. During this time, Kūnlún will revert back to his native tongue, crooning out distressed songs that have all the familiars gathered around him in an attempt to soothe their caretaker. He's always proud of himself for not succumbing to his instincts, though, and as a compromise he and Ingrid nest in the Manor's hot springs, with the water as close to boiling as Urquhart will allow.

Honestly, Kūnlún was terrified the first time he met Ingrid, and even more so when she told him of her macabre profession. In an attempt to combat his fears as well as rebel against the conservative Fire Coatl stereotype, Kūnlún made the effort of getting to know Ingrid and now they enjoy a well-developed and intimate understanding. Outside of the other Coatls, Kūnlún is still quite reticent and rarely speaks, and relies on Manila to translate his heavily accented Draconian. Orion is an exception - their mutual love for small children and familiars transcends any trifling barriers of language and heritage.
