Flis is a guardian beset by visions of doom. Never happy or cheerful or mildly peaceful. No, the visions always showed him portents of the dreadful, the destructive, the disastrous. They ranged from large sweeping dramas with horrible consequences--such as an army of Talonok descending on a central dragon clan with chaos and vengeance in their cries--to minor inconveniences that trouble one's mood for the day--such as tomorrow's burnt breakfast. |

He happened upon clan Wandering Tree by accident--or rather clan Wandering Tree happened upon him. Along the sandy banks of Tsunami Flats, another vision overtook Flis, this one of a battle between dragonkind and shade-turned cloud chasers and golden porpoises. As a matter of course, the battle ended as unfavorably as he'd dreaded, and in such a manner as to turn his stomach and cloud his mind with severe depression. Right in the middle of his walk, Flis fell prone, covering his big blood red head with his big paws, moaning the fate of the three strange dragons. As it so happened, that same cruel twist of fate put those three dragons on his path. They saw him fall, and the healer among them--an endlessly helpful nature fae--came to his aid. With a simple tonic and a bit of balm on his temples, she cleared his headache, if not his heartache. It was this kindness that spurred Flis to share the warning of his portent. Unfortunately, while the three dragons heeded his vision, they could not be swayed from their quest and went on into the Kelp Beds. Flis watched them go with sorrow, convinced he'd never see them again. But, oh, for once he was wrong! The three dragons--Luxis, Bariq and Nadina--did return. Thanks to his warning, they were prepared for the shade-touched mob. It was still a close battle, and more than once they saw the death promised them. But in the end, they prevailed. Battle-worn, with a few deep scars and a sudden distaste for the sea, but prevail, they did. They offered a place for the orphaned water guardian in their clan. Flis--feeling a new sensation, a levity of brightness one might even dare call hope--agreed and so joined clan Wandering Tree as their youngest prophet. |
