Cilantro
#4139812
[ previous ]
Cilantro was loudly kicked awake as an acolyte pointed towards the shimmering Moonportal. A grey and blue Sandsurge emerged and Cilantro became aware. He hurried looked at his client notes and nodded to himself groggily. With a relaxed flick of his tail and a yawn Cilantro made his way to where the Sandsurge and a beamingly bright Coatl next to her awaited. "Wavecaller?" He asked politely. The shimmery Sandsurge looked at him as if he had left her family in the midst of the grasslands to be preyed upon by beasts. Great.
xxx
xxx He made a mental note that today was going to be difficult and that he was to apologize twenty times for whatever was wrong with his greeting that upset his noble client. "I am Cilantro and..." He glanced at his checklist. "Your guide for the Beaming Falls and Scaleturn River." He waited as his client made a comment to the Coatl she was with and then said Coatl departed.

"Ba'Carulatael of House Wavecaller." She huffed. Just Carulata is fine."

"Well, 'just Carulata' we're burning daylight here." Cilantro made a show of looking towards the sun judgingly. "Seeing everything of the Beaming Falls and Scaleturn will take eight hours give or take. We have five, so excuse me if it seems I am rushed."

"We can skip the falls." Carulata replied seriously.

"Skip the falls? That's the whole reason dragons travel to the Moonportal!" Cilantro laughed and noted that "Just Carulata" seemed vaguely amused but she was still staring at him so seriously it was starting to make his skin itch. "We'll make a quick stop by, there's painters and such who squat there. I'm sure you'd love to give your clan a portrait of yourself here, right?" Showing off the Beaming Falls was always a highlight of Cilantro's day so he wasn't going to just let Carulata snatch that from him by being a stick in the mud.

The journey to such was effortless and breezy. Still, winter had settled and with it faint specks of snow dotted the ground from the Southern Icefields. Although he always had mixed feelings guiding water dragons, they never complained of the cold during the winter season. He stopped to point out a few areas of interest. Bakeries, ancient old houses, and how certain buildings connected to the Moonportal and were now infused with it's magical essence. He turned to ensure Carulata was following him but was surprised to see her fixated on the skies. She was watching the snowfall, clutching the flakes in her hand and letting them settled on her horns.

"Your clan from the deepsea? Never seen snow?"

Carulata's face relaxed and she seemed finally at ease. "The Isles see winter. It is mild though. Warm."

"You ought to visit the Moonportal more often then." He pointed towards just beyond it's reaches. "That city? Covered in snow in middle of the winter." Cilantro grinned at seeing Carulata seem fascinated by that information. He pivoted direction of his tour slightly, focusing more on wintery-themed activities and buildings since his client seemed to like that.

At last they reached the golden hued river, fueled by magic from Lightweaver herself it pillared down towards Lightning in faint echoes of water and met the Scaleturn below. As promise, Cilantro pointed out painters to commission and to his confusion she seemed begrudging to do so. Usually at this point on solo tours dragons were impressed, in awe over the falls and river but Carulata seemed dejected. She carried her wrapped up painting passively so much so that Cilantro offered to take it.

"Are you not enjoying yourself?" He asked after noting she was no longer replying to his stories.

"It is a fine waterfall." Carulata replied. "Though I have come to see the river."

"The Scaleturn isn't that exciting." He dismissed with a wave. "It's just a waypoint between cities on it's banks. Besides, I can't take you down the whole of it." He almost missed Carulata handing out three more shiny coins in his direction.

"I need a guard." She stared with such intensity that Cilantro ventured he was about to sign up for something monumental and even possibly dangerous.

"A boat is going to cost more then.." He took a look at the coins, "five thousand treasure." Carulata rolled her eyes then handed him twenty more.

--

It had been a long time since Cilantro had taken a luxury ferry. The last he recalled was when he had just begun offering tours and a particularly friendly pearlcatcher had invited him on board. Now he was staying within his own private room and the generous Carulata stayed a deck up. Both were now on the top deck though as Cilantro felt he should earn his keep and began to chat at length about every city and town and interesting rock along the Scaleturn.

"If you're feeling extra generous, I do know quite a bit about Goldensparc lady Carulata."

"We will not need to travel so far." She stated firmly. For the first time in several hours she gazed directly at Cilantro. "Are you good at dueling?"

Cilantro beamed and with a smile he whispered "No. I can get you out of a pinch real quick but I am no fighter." He expected for her to maybe be upset but instead this seemed to ease Carulata. "That is all I require." She nodded firmly. "Be ready." She then warned. Shortly thereafter Carulata returned to her cabin and Cilantro enjoyed himself on the finest ferry the Beaming Fall's had to offer.

--

"Awaken." Cilantro was startled and took more than a few seconds to put together Carulata was standing outside his nesting cabin with a serious gaze. Usually it took more then just words for Cilantro to wake up and the thought that something dangerous was happening spurned him into action.

"What's the matter?" He asked in a hushed tone.

"We must leave. Follow me." Nothing seemed amiss but Cilantro wasn't about to let his wealthy client wander off without him and so he tailed her lazily as they went up through the ferry. When they reached the top deck Carulata cast him a curious glance. "Can you swim?"

"No ma'am." He replied with a yawn. Wrong answer, it seemed. Before he knew it Carulata had cast a spell on him. Fins made of magic emerged from his arms and she shoved him ungracefully into the murky waves below.

Cilantro panicked. He waved his arms and wings together but fought against the ferry's strength and was losing. Carulata used some sort of water spell to pull him away and closer to her, and he never felt so relieved and then scared again in quick succession. The ferry was leaving. She beckoned him to follow then the two made their way down to the riverbed and Cilantro said farewell to his little sash of lifesavings in his nest cabin.

Carulata seemed focused. She knew what she was seeking but Cilantro was just dazed. He didn't know what to do. Some sort of statue was revealed from Carulata disturbing the sand and she channeled a blast of magic on it. A rumbling from above was heard and the two Sandsurge's surfaced to see whatever had happened.

It was almost too dark to see but a small cavern was opened in the side of cliff separating Light and Lightning. "There!" Flying to it took more then a little effort being waterlogged and disoriented but somehow he managed.

Carulata tapped on his arm demandingly, but he could not guess what she wanted. "Light." Cilantro was not particularly skilled in magic but he focused himself and produced a small ball of light in his palms of which Carulata took and threw in pieces around the cavern. A new statue graced their eyes. A Sandsurge the size of a Guardian towered over both of them. From it's eyes the tiniest speck of lightning shimmered and danced.

"This. This is what called to me." She seemed filled with purpose and breathed out a breath of pure water magic. The lightning fleck consumed it. Cilantro had never seen such before.

Loud pulses of energy whirred beneath his feet. It felt like water was gushing everywhere. "What did you do?" Cilantro asked nervously.

"I awoke the inner tides."

She didn't elaborate but rather took Cilantro and made him follow. Underneath the Scaleturn he saw as a new tunnel, too big to be a Ridgeback tunnel, emerged and filled with water. The two traveled down it, and Cilantro was bewildered as new tunnels parted as they journeyed.

He gasped as they emerged within the Tsunami Flats.

Carulata actually grinned at him and they surfaced. "Finally. No more pull from the river."

"What is all that?" Cilantro starred, stunned.

"The will of Stormcaller." was her only reply.
