If you ask me, sometimes the machinations of the Houses get in the way of what's really going on in this place. But who am I to judge?

The houses of Ailleacht are all so different despite their universal dedication to the betterment of the clan. Where one shows weakness, another shows strength, and they have found ways to complement each other in times of battle to create an unmatched army.

THE GREAT HOUSES

House Arckhald
The current Ruling House of the Ancient Lair of Áilleacht, House Arckhald is comprised of unmatched generals and bolstered by not-so-subtle magical prowess. Currently led by Clan Matriarch Jaerden, House Arckhald has also built strong ties with the rest of the lair Houses, particularly Mystward, Sestrin, and Deannaigh, enough so that almost all dragons in the lair can trace themselves back to House Arckhald in some way. House Arckhald's first and foremost loyalty is to the clan, with all its' members dedicated entirely to serving Áilleacht.


House Mystward
The second House of the Ancient Lair of Áilleacht, House Mystward consists of powerful diplomats and philosophers and driven forward by an explorative spirit and artistic talent. Currently led by a Ruling Council of triplet brothers Hyperion, Erebus, and Selenus and advised by their parents and grandparents, House Mystward prides itself on remaining powerful without stooping so low as to squabble, with strong friendships and relations forged within House Arckhald and House Sestrin, and far beyond.


House Sestrin
House Sestrin is notable for the fact that it was founded by four adoptive 'sisters' who chose each other for love rather than by blood. House Sestrin has grown to be one of the Great Houses of Áilleacht, unique in that it consists only of those who have chosen to join, rather than being merely born into it. Led by the original Four Sisters, the House is beloved by all in the lair and open to all who wish for a family in sisterhood.


House Jamewach
House Jamewach prides itself as the hidden backbone of the lair, with almost all information coming first to House Jamewach and then to everyone else. A common saying around the lair is "If one dragon knows, then Jamewach knows too." Led by the Matriarch and Patriarch, Boudica and Khonsu, House Jamewach stands as a small yet not forgotten House that could be quite a roadblock if they ever decided to move for more power in the lair.


House Kítos
A House of Áilleacht sometimes seen as moments from going rogue, House Kítos' center of power lies on the ship The Cetus, exploring the world, trading with and for clan goods, and sometimes engaging in some "light" larceny. Led by the Captain of the ship, Glaze; advised by his First Mate and partner Ridley at sea; and bolstered by the political and social movements of the rest of their polycule in the lair, House Kítos is family first and family last, with the ocean in between.


House Yibbathoth
Possibly the strangest house of Áilleacht, House Yibbathoth stands as a house built on the power of Plague and the strength that lies in being different, contrary, and (sometimes literally) breaking the mold. As an exile (or escapee) from her creator's court and cauldron, the Matriarch Ursula is reluctant to lead her own house, but advised by her bounty-hunter-turned-lover Beriyel, she is ready to create a home that reminds its' own that pecularity is not just good--it's beautiful.

House Venturhang
A small yet integral House of Áilleacht, House Venturhang is responsible for the necessary but oft-overlooked day-to-day operations of the lair. From leading gathering expeditions to helping dragons bond familiars, from exploring the land that the clan claims to leading a full evacuation and relocation of the lair in case of disaster, House Venturhang is a cornerstone of Áilleacht that provides the lair with constant reassurance of a bright future regardless of the circumstances.


House Gestridu
The most secretive House of Áilleacht, House Gestridu dedicates itself entirely to the study of the occult and the containment and disposal of all the strange and confusing things that inhabit (and plague) the clan. Led by the Matriarch Klara and driven by the runic commission and prophecy written into her skin, House Gestridu welcomes all dragons who peer beyond the veil, whether they were born with the ability to gaze into the abyss or have purposefully searched out the darkness.


House Machtilli
A House of Áilleacht that prefers letting their work speak for itself, House Machtilli is a House of peerless artists and dynamic magicians, with constant crossovers between the two concepts. Led by a warlock who gains power from gems and jewels and a magician who works wonders with glass, House Machtilli also prides itself on showing how the divergence between art and magic are not as simple as one might believe, and that you cannot have one without at least a little bit of the other.


House Deannaigh
A small yet well-established House of Áilleacht, House Deannaigh arose after the events of the Dustcarve Dig. Seen as the brotherly response to House Sestrin, House Deannaigh also consists of family that was chosen rather than blooded in the adoptive Brothers of Dundarrol and Matthias, who lead the House. House Deannaigh has already formed a strong alliance with House Arckhald, and has joined with others who find solace in brotherhood and a strong focus on spirituality and belief.


House Nomesil
Another roving House of Áilleacht, House Nomesil is a house of rangers, seeing the world and trading in supplies, information, and connections. House Nomesil prides itself on geographical mastery, with each member having a favored terrain--in this respect, the Head Navigator constantly changes based on what kind of environment the House is currently traveling through and who knows it best. Ranging from the forests to the deserts, House Nomesil is an arm of Áilleacht that cannot be ignored.


House Huathane
House Huathane is an interesting house of Áilleacht in that it lives in self-exile from the main lair, yet welcomes all. House Huathane lives in a cliff-bound forest and is dedicated entirely to the protection of a mysterious vault discovered by their Matriarch, Yevanna. While guardians, this House also considers itself to be both hermitage and monastery, and lives a peaceful, self-sustaining life in their valley. Just be very careful not to confuse their peacefulness for helplessness.

THE ANCIENT HOUSES

House Besklon
As the first Ancient House of the Ancient Lair of Áilleacht, House Besklon is primarily the house of the Gaolers, and as such works to protect the lair from Shade entities, and, well, everything else. Between their day-to-day Icewarden-bound activities of protecting Sornieth, House Besklon also works to preserve and protect the lair, oftentimes achieving this goal by building confusing labyrinths, researching odd and dangerous secrets, and trying to give Áilleacht "even a fighting chance".


House Conamtal
Rising from the ashes as one of the Ancient Houses of Áilleacht, House Conamtal welcomes all Banescales, as well as any who wish to devote themselves to Conamtal’s mission. House Conamtal, as a House of a nearly-destroyed draconic race, understands that the world sustains itself on a constant cycle of creation and destruction, of life and death. Led by this belief in continuity, House Conamtal devotes itself fully to preserving and encouraging the turning of the wheel, no matter the cost.


House Fabrerse
While being the smallest House of Áilleacht, the Ancient House Fabrerse opens its doors to all Veilspuns, as well as any and all who dedicate themselves to study, from the scientific to the magical. House Fabrerse particularly emphasizes practical application of knowlege. They do not learn just to learn--they are constantly seeking ways to put their knowledge to use rather than let it rot (though they have little care for what their knowledge is being used for, just that it is being used).


House Wistsong
The Ancient House of Wistsong is the seat of Aberration power in Áilleacht and is driven by the logical minds of Zakaeus and the trickster mayhem of their adoptive sisters, Wyzeria. Joined by Zakaeus's non-Aberration partner, Erlinde, House Wistsong works to find the balance between order and chaos and all opposite extremes with plenty of both to keep this House (and all the others) always guessing at what's coming next and unsure of whether that something will be trick or treat.


House Zharathus
One of the newest houses of Áilleacht, the Ancient House Zharathus is home to all Undertide in the lair. While the Undertide primarily come from the ocean and are most comfortable in water, the members of this House each display a particular elemental mastery across the spectrum, ranging anywhere from shadows to fire, from copper to gold. The reason for this magical affinity is a House secret, but carves a place of power and renown in the lair for all who wish to call Zharathus their own.


House Lyvington
House Lyvington is the strangest of the Ancient Áilleacht houses; it existed some time before the Aether ship landed. The house founders, Ulyxxes and Delia, have only just reunited, having long believed themselves to be the only Aether left on Sornieth in their travels. House Lyvington is thus simultaneously the home of all Áilleachti Aether, as well as those who dedicate themselves to exploring the world and finding the lost and mysterious, having been among the lost and found themselves.

Who am I? I am Mneme, Memory Incarnate. I traveled from far, far away to record the events that take place here, and when the time comes, I'll move on to the next place that needs someone to Remember...

Mneme is the Loremaster of Áilleacht. No one is quite sure how they got here, nor are they sure if they're even real. When they arrived ages ago, they never spoke, never harmed anyone, never asked for anything, only watching, observing, and writing in a massive journal they carried with a quill that never ran out of ink. After numerous sightings lead to confusion and concern, Mneme appeared at the Clan Council meeting concerning their existence and answered just a few questions, before never speaking to another dragon again: Why are they here? What do they want? How long will they stay? Their answers are simple: They are here to Remember. They wish to Record. They will stay as long as Required. Following this speech, Mneme became a constant, if odd, fixture around the lair and the Clan’s territory.

Of course I gave them my name, as a common courtesy. And they asked what gender I align myself with. How odd. I've never heard about this practice. But of course the answer is simple: why align myself at all, if I never cared to give such alignment any time in my thoughts?

Mneme appears to be a Snapper, though it is uncertain if this is truly their shape, or simply the one they have chosen to take for this moment in time. Their form flickers somewhere between incorporeal enough to be blown away by a strong wind, or solid as stone. They carry nothing except for a large journal with seemingly endless pages and a quill that doesn't require an inkwell. Any attempt to speak with them is met by either Mneme's silence, sudden disappearance, or occasionally a simple smile, wink, and the tap on the closed cover of their book. They can move at will, appearing in locked or forbidden rooms without disturbance of the door, or passing through solid walls without breaking stride. Mneme can be seen constantly writing in their book, but anyone trying to look sees nothing but blank pages and often gets a small smile from Mneme for trying to peek.

Appearing at just the right moments to observe and record, Mneme does not interfere in Clan affairs, leading to the belief that they find politics and power to be beneath them...though sometimes, noticed by the very observant, it seems that they're enjoying the antics of the dragons around them and the chance to record all that they see. The actions that lead to or stem from joy seem to draw the greatest response, with hatchling's antics leading to laughter, or a heartfelt confession provoking a tear.

Accompanied by a seemingly sentient, mysteriously living globe of Sornieth, which onlookers have heard Mneme address as Tiamaat, Mneme is simultaneously viewed as another member of the Clan and as an extremely odd visiting diplomat. No one is sure exactly what they're Remembering or Recording, or how long their services will be Required. But one thing is for certain: for now, Mneme is here to stay.

They ask me why I am here and what I want. I have answered them: I am here to Remember. I wish to Record. I will stay as long as Required. And I am not the only one. My siblings will arrive soon enough, and we will give this Clan everything it needs...
