Biography

╙──────────────────────────╜
it was difficult to spot at first, in no small part due to its coloring, but once you do see it, you stand transfixed and bemused at the odd sight.

in the sky, a serpentine creature twists and snakes through the snow, moving with a lazy sort of grace. you might have thought it to be a spiral - or perhaps a particularly motivated undertide - if not for the plumage, and for the lack of visible wings. red tendrils trail lazily alongside alabaster feathers, ruffling in the ceaseless storm's howling winds. it swoops, ducking behind the mountain, beyond your line of sight.

it's not long before it reemerges - coming back around that far side of the frost-capped mountain. gliding slowly downward, approaching the snow-covered surface at a sedate pace, it curves around to face where you stand. and, growing nearer to you, it's as one gargantuan, blazing eye comes into view that you come to a startling realization - this thing, whatever it is, was both further away, and much, much larger than you thought.

and much faster than you thought.

overcome with sudden fright, you throw yourself into the fresh powdery snow as it approaches, hoping to throw off its trajectory. if this thing decides to attack you, you cannot imagine how you would even begin to fight it off - no, it is better to hide and evade and wait until the danger passes.

however, no harm comes to you. instead, appearing to not have even noticed you, it swoops harmlessly overhead.

its eye passes you by first, fixed steadfastly ahead on some unknown point. you aren't sure whether to feel relieved or distressed at the lack of an immediately discernible mouth.

or, you note with a faint hysteria, the remainder of anything that could be considered a face. that brilliant eye is set instead within an invisible socket, ahead of where the physical body begins. burnished chains and pendants bearing absurdly large stones dangle from its throat, and trail along, clinking and rattling with wind and with movement.

the bulk of the serpent's body eclipses the sky and its rolling grays, smothering the world in pristine white and streaks of brilliant red. the shadow it casts over the ground, and over you, is vast, and dark.

and cold. you had not realized how much warmth this world's sun provided you until you were so unceremoniously deprived of its light. awe-stricken and shuddering, you huddle in the snow, eyes fixed on the beast overhead.

this close, now, you can see the red tendrils are in fact long, boneless limbs, adorned with aimlessly grasping claws, each of them the length of your wing and coming to a fine razor point. finally, the long body tapers out gradually to the end of a tail. only when the last long white feather and grasping, reaching claw are no longer overhead do you dare breathe.

bizarrely, in its wake, flower petals colored a deep, rich red flutter down to settle delicately on the ground, and are quickly swallowed up by fresh snowfall. you root in the powder where you saw one land, and are unable to find it, as if it had simply vanished once out of sight.

the serpent continues along its lazily winding path, curving to circle back around the mountain. a mountain, which you can now see is so grand, so imposing, it makes this colossal creature appear to be minuscule.

you have a far way to climb.
