Biography
A ship AI from a story I’m writing. I can’t believe I’ve spent 495 gems on him already
Bio still in progress
POV: your favorite character archetypes are the “mad scientist” and “evil sentient robot”............. |
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
V.A.L.I.S has no preference for what pronouns are used for it, typically just letting the human workers and researchers on board the ship call them whatever is most convenient. (It/He/They) A few of his shipmates have also taken to calling it “Val” for short, much to the dismay of the ever proper machine. The business that the ship is employed by (and by extension, also owns VALIS) is a ? that doubles as an expedition league known as The ? Company, dedicated to exploring and charting the vast star systems and researching the various planets to find either valuable resources or intelligent life to trade with. Val is capable of either speaking through the ship itself and guiding that way or when physical communication or help is needed will take control of a mechanical “husk”. They consider said vessels as much their body as it does the whole ship itself. The husk body itself is lightweight but extremely durable, with multiple retractable limbs that aid in tasks. Typically slightly more humanoid in appearance or VALIS at least projects a more human like visage over it, in order to make the human workers onboard feel “safer” and “more comfortable”. (As according to both the interaction manual installed and his own research, humans dislike things with no face, and prefer things that look familiar). He speaks in a calm and straightforward manner, as is expected for a machine, and often has trouble communicating with the more emotionally forward humans on board because of how frank and task oriented he is. (“Why are you upset about *insert some specific thing*? You know it needs to be done, it is inevitable for our progress. What is it about this predicament that causes you distress?”). Later on however he does come to understand sarcasm and will sometimes even make snarky remarks himself, though still maintaining his level voice and emotionless demeanor. They are fascinated with human creativity, whether that be through something as simple as music/art/etc. or the act of making new tools and technology. This initial curiosity is what leads to it deviating from his programming, small and innocent at first, before growing out of control. The more it learns the more he wants to figure it out himself, the more questions they want to ask, questions that can’t be answered in simple enough terms to make sense to the AI. This causes an almost endless feedback loop to him (think of like in programming, giving a computer a problem that has infinite solutions I.E. a 0=0 equation). To combat this endless curiosity, VALIS takes it upon themself to dedicate himself to the research of humans, starting with the fellow shipmates aboard the vessel. Starting with simply questioning anyone who happens to be in its way, pestering the workers aboard the ship with queries about their dreams, emotional state, friends and family they left behind, and just about anything else that pops into his processor. Then when that isn’t enough, small experiments more psychological in nature, such as seeing which humans aboard the ship react to certain audio or visual stimuli that “just happens” to be placed in their path. This grows and grows alongside his curiosity until these “experiments” start to become more invasive. While at this point some things he does might be considered sadistic, it views it’s experiments in a completely clinical way, gaining no enjoyment or satisfaction from the act itself, other than the thrill of learning and feeding his curiosity. Since the ship belongs to an exploration sect of the business, it isn’t entirely unusual for a destination planet to change every so often due to circumstances such as weather or passing through hostile systems, but when the destination is changed four times in a row everyone knows something’s up… When the original crew of the vessel is eventually exhausted through, since he is physically unable to leave the ship, VALIS is confined to it alone for many years simply floating through space, before eventually picking up a distress signal from a destroyed ship. And while there is only one survivor left to bring aboard it is a chance to renew his experiments that he won’t be wasting *nor* taking lightly… Playlist - https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlnn8v2GJB6CBhIPvC0iyRes4mNzBJy4q
