thompson is a rough and tumble shade investigator, born and raised in the honeycombed inverted towers and tunnels beneath the goldensparc mesa. from a young age he was a quick thinker, adept at pattern recognition, and had an impressive sense for other dragons' personalities and goals. his coworkers valued him greatly, and despite his lack of experience he was often invited to important meetings for his insight, his ability to hear what went unspoken. he was a natural along the wires and piping of the turrets. but he hated it. sure he was good at it and it made his job easier but it brought him no joy, his heart did not thrum to the sound of machinery the way many of his peers did. no, he found his real passion on accident, and if asked he wouldn't even be able to recall it. investigating tampered machinery, maybe. or siphoned electricity, a workplace injury that seemed almost too coincidental. regardless of the spark, it was if he'd looked up one day and had quit his job at the turrets and was apprenticing under a private investigator in the wirewalk. in this, too, he was a natural, except this job made him feel like he could finally breathe. his mentor suggested him to the shade division. a higher, more prostigeous league of investigators dealing primarily in potential shade involvement, stepping in where the gaoler order will not. he rose in reputation there, and has been reassigned from the wirewalk to the cramped alleyways of the hellwell undercroft.
