Perfection isn't an option. It's a requirement.
Those were the words repeated to Lumen over and over again when he was still a child.
Trying your best isn't enough. You have to be the best, no matter what.
That's what was expected of him. Being a perfect little beacon of light, the spitting image of the Lightweaver.
But with such high expectations put on his shoulders, he was just set up to fail.
So when his mane started to darken, followed by his scales and wings, He wasn't perfect anymore; he was a failure. He failed at being the brightest of them all.
Why did he darken so much? He didn't know. He was still the same guy, on the inside. But the inside didn't matter to them. Because of his physical change, nobody wanted him around anymore. So they got rid of him like he was some sort of broken toy that could be discarded as soon as it became useless; they chased him from his home, forced him into exile.
He wandered for weeks, lonely and scared of the world he was now forced to traverse. He had been so sheltered, but now... Now, he was surrounded by danger.
