Biography
“if you're forging your own path, be prepared to light your own pyre."
Cicerax // Brotherhood's King || The Oath-keeper // The Oak-Keeper
Forgotten and lamenting. Charged to guard the everlasting tree of his forebears, Cicerax humbly awaits the day he is dismissed. With time, the ceaseless environment chiselled away at his mien both physically and mentally. Now barren breaches in his memory accompany the array of scars marring his flesh, grotesque runes to reward faithful servitude to family long forgotten.
Formerly a valiant warrior, the ancient greatwood transfusion tree stands as his substitute charge. His prior clan, quick to make enemies and prone to vengeful acts, were so inflicted with curses that the ancient oak became the host of their wrath. The tree, seeping vile saps and howling a haunting melody with each rustle of the breeze can only prove to stave off the harrowing curses, as curses cannot be cured or undone. Should the tree fall, a nightmarish beast would surely creep forth from the monstrous mass left behind. Therefore Cicerax waits, and he guards.
A victim to his honour, his body is mottled with the diseased influence the tree has upon him, belching forth illness and frightful horrors. Still the steadfast dragon remains, determined to fulfil his oath. His protective vows extend to those who are tranquil in their passing, and many who take residence within the festering bog that houses the Oath-Drake find themselves subjected to his fierce protection. His allegiance is hard earned and highly sought.
While often remote, Cicerax tolerates and somewhat adores the other residents of the Brotherhood, his nature is solitary yet he establishes strong familial ties between his clan mates through deeds of respect. With others loathe to do so, he establishes himself as the clan Leader, abandoning formal namesakes out of some degree of duty. Cicerax was born a humble warrior, and always the drake lies in waiting, a fierce guardian of the rotten.
Quiet by nature, Cicerax is humbled by those who deem it fit to idolise him, extending his quaint friendship to them. Rot seeps through his bones, and the tormenting curses burn his tendons, yet he would sooner fall than allow the curses to escape and inflict greater terrors onto the lands. A single drake can handle torment for the greater good of all.
“It cannot be seen, cannot be felt,
Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt,
It lies behind stars and under hills,
And empty holes it fills,
It comes first and follows after,
Ends life, kills laughter.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit
