Biography
Gardenia
gatherer | curious | helpful | accepting mate: N/A | PAIR RANGE Gardenia was always different from her siblings. While her brother and sister trained to serve the Plaguebringer, Gardenia preferred tending the gardens with her mother, Genevieve. She spent her days collecting herbs and studying their properties. The garden denizens applauded her work, but Astrid harbored a discontent. For she had been born a snapper, a form Gardenia found cumbersome and unnatural. She admired and understood the value of snappers, but could not recognize herself as one. However, she could not articulate how to ease these discomfort so she buried her feelings deep and feigned happiness. Then, the aethers returned to Sorneith. Gardenia watched as they flew over the Sanctuary. Her heart soared. Their fur coats, their extra arms, their wings. Astrid admired them endlessly. She even imagined herself flying among their ranks, an aether herself. Inspired, Gardenia confided her dreams to Genevieve and asked if there was a way to change her form. Genevieve comforted her daughter but apologized. For she had no way to change her form, but she swore she would always love Gardenia and do everything in her power to help her. The next day, Genevieve and Gardenia went to Catalina, an arcane witch who had settled in the gardens, using the strange plants to create potions and tinctures. They asked if she could change Gardenia's form. Catalina shook her head. She had yet to perfect such a potion, but believed she was on the verge of a breakthrough. She only needed the right mixture of herbs to stabilize the mixture so as not to harm the user. An expert on the garden's herbs, Gardenia offered her assistance. Catalina accepted and they began their work. For weeks, the two worked tirelessly, creating myriads of concoctions. Few were safe for consumption, but they enjoyed laboring together, Catalina teaching Gardenia of arcane magic and Gardenia offering new perspective for Catalina's. Eventually, their teamwork resulted in a safe potion. Nervously, Gardenia drank. Slowly, her body morphed. Fur sprouted from her scales and her body stretched. New legs grew from her middle and her wings changed shape. The transformation was strange but not painful, and soon Astrid stood not as a snapper, but an aether. She looked at her reflection in Catalina's cauldron and wept. At last, she was content. She rushed through the Sanctuary and boasted her new form. Dragons marveled, complimenting her loveliness and noted that she had never smiled so brightly. Gardenia still works in the gardens, using her extra arms to more effectively gather and tend to the plants. She also continues to assist Catalina's craft offering new supplies for her potions. Together, they have created other shapeshifting potions so every dragon in the Sanctuary can take their desired form.
