Hailing from the Shifting Expanse, Fitz had lived a life stifled by the rigid monotony surrounding him. Not many dragons supported him in his goal to invent newer and better technologies, thinking he would "grow up" and conform to the factory-fueled society. Often his inventions were "accidentally" destroyed. And so he moved south to the Icefield, where despite being more suitable, he found that he could hardly stand the frigid temperatures. It was here that he met Simmons, a native ice dragon who too desired to move somewhere more vibrant and welcoming.

And so Fitz and Simmons, who he learned was also a scientist, became inseparable friends on their journey to the far north and into the Viridian Labyrinth. It was a few months before they had found a clan that respected their interests, but when they did, they settled in immediately.

The others in the clan think of them as eccentric and private, and so few bother them in their studies. That suits the two just fine-- after all, what friends do they need besides each other?
