Biography
ARNHVATR
Deputy Chief Archivist | Beastclan Outreach Project Head | Chief of the Archive's Guards
Deputy Chief Archivist | Beastclan Outreach Project Head | Chief of the Archive's Guards
Ari is an easygoing and generally fairly sensible dragon, although he values his honor as a Guardian highly, and is perhaps a little too interested in appearing dignified, at least for someone who is yellow and magenta.
After the destruction of his Charge, Ari fled south, towards the ices where he was hatched, in utter shame. He was too distraught to consider just what his plans were -- to find some sign of the family he left behind as a hatchling? To throw himself upon the mercy of the Icewarden? To freeze on the icefield? Whatever it was, he was not especially looking for or expecting a second chance, but after several days of travel, he blundered into another dragon's lair and passed out. When Isolde returned from fishing and found him, she took pity on him and demanded that he stay at least for a few days to warm up and rest. He grudgingly agreed, and helped her with the archives during his stay, in order to feel at least slightly useful. Eventually, she talked him into staying, and while the past still weighs heavily on him, Ari is able to forget it every now and then. He tends to let others assume the Archive is his Charge as well as Isy's. The beastclans' growing hostility saddens him, and he is using the resources of the Archive to try and turn the tide with SCIENCE! (well, anthropology) and goodwill efforts. He has also managed to reestablish contact with some of the Longnecks who survived the eruption. Ari is ferocious on the battlefield, a product of his time as the protector of the village. He is in charge of the small group of warriors who preserve the Archive from marauders and monsters. Everyone calls him Ari. (Except for Isolde, who sometimes calls him Arnhvatr when he's in trouble.) He and Isy are mates in a childrearing sense, but not a romantic couple. In addition to their biological hatchlings, Isolde and Arnhvatr raised Gethin and Itzal as their own.
STUDIES:
Traditional customs and beliefs of the local Longneck and Centaur clans.
CHARGE:
A Longneck village situated between the Stormcatcher's Lightning Farm and the Molten Scar; after many years of gaining their trust and working as their protector (and sometimes, to his amusement, their mascot) the village was destroyed by the eruption of a volcano thought to be dormant. Though Ari's icy breath held off the lava briefly, it was not enough to save the village. His only consolation is that, though the village itself is gone, many of the Longnecks survive.
FAMILIAR:
Fergus, one of the Longnecks who survived the destruction of Ari's Charge. Sent out as a scout by the other survivors, he managed to find the Archive, and a number of the remaining Longnecks have chosen to make the Archive their home.
