Biography
A lifetime ago, when Rakuna was young, she followed the instinctive tug of her heart and left her birth clan to seek out that which would make her whole. Flying far and wide across the Icefield in her Search, she eventually came upon a herd of Dunhoof upon the tundra. There she found her charge, and there she resolved to spend the rest of her days. A local dragon clan accepted her into their ranks, and she spent her time flitting between their company and that of the herd. For a time it was good, and then local Beastclan attitudes towards dragons began to sour. Rakuna's herd remained peaceful, but an increase in tension between the clan and the the other inhabitants of the tundra had her spreading herself thin trying to play ambassador. Skirmishes broke out, relations grew ugly, and Rakuna was forced to make a choice between the clan and the herd. She would not leave her charge, and so she remained with the Dunhoof. The herd withdrew into isolation to avoid the territorial clashes between the dragons and the beasts, and once again, for a time, things were good. Unfortunately, no matter how closely Rakuna guarded her charge, it was simply impossible to account for all eventualities. Accidents happen, and one day Rakuna found herself with a charge no longer.
Blindsided by this sudden paradigm shift, she had no way to cope; she expressed her grief through violence, and for that she was driven from the herd. For a short time she returned to the clan that had hosted her before, but the dragons were reluctant to take her back, and the Guardians there did not like to see the future they faced if they similarly failed their charge. There was a not-so-subtle movement by the clan to pressure Rakuna to forsake her meager possessions and serve the Icewarden; Rakuna, infuriated by this perceived betrayal, did indeed leave the clan. Instead of seeking out the Icewarden, however, she retreated to the Floes to live the rest of her life in solitude. Once there, however, she reconsidered, deciding that she would rather form a clan of her own that she could protect in lieu of her lost charge.
Rakuna broke ground for the lair with her very own talons, and dug through rigid ice and frozen soil until she bled to build a safe haven upon the tundra. As such she views the clan as indisputably hers, and will not tolerate anything she sees as a challenge to her leadership. However, as an independent and reserved dragon, she typically does not insert herself needlessly into the business of her other clan mates unless it is an issue that may jeopardize the future integrity of the clan. Dispassionate, she forms her opinions based on observation and thought rather than emotions and feelings. Once she has developed a particular stance it is difficult for her to be dissuaded from it, for she is very stubborn. Pride often prevents her from admitting that she has made a mistake.
Eager to see her clan grow, Rakuna welcomes most newcomers regardless of their breed, elemental affinities, or previous clan associations. She is particularly partial to adopting lost or abandoned hatchlings so as to better inculcate them with her clan's neutral and more pacifist leanings. She does, however, view other females with distrust; she is particularly suspicious of the Ridgeback Ravana, who is large enough to challenge Rakuna for dominance if she feels so inclined. Thus far, the other female's intentions have remained inscrutable, but Rakuna knows not to take her lightly.
As a leader, she believes in remaining aloof from the rest of the clan, concerned that forging deep connections with any of them may be viewed as acts of favoritism or nepotism. This policy has had the greatest impact on her own hatchlings, whom she has always kept at a distance. Even though her children are now adults, she treats them as she would any other member of the clan. The only true friends she has are Theros, whom she trusts above all others, Analemma, who always has her back, and Shadira, who, despite being a potential threat to Rakuna's hold over the Coatl portion of the clan, respects her far too much to make a bid for leadership. The two females often collaborate when it comes to issues and decisions that Rakuna is uncertain about.
