Dragonkind is quick to persecute anyone worshiping deities other than Sornieth's eleven, so most assume that "forbidden" worship must be limited to ancient times, beastclans, or insane loners. Evidence is immediately destroyed, and most stories are smothered before gossip can escape.

However, cases such as the Starry Wisdom cult reveal that entire congregations secretly worship the Great Old Ones. At its peak, at least 200 dragons abandoned the Tidelord and instead called to Nyarlathotep for visions of the future. Their main ritual object was the Shining Trapezohedron, a multifaceted gemstone of alien origin which they used to summon an avatar for Nyarlathotep out of the Shade.

Even though they preformed ritual sacrifices, Starry Wisdom was able to operate in secret for 33 years before their clanmates discovered them and drove them out. Other heretical congregations have survived for even longer by hiding in remote areas or by allowing only relatives to join.
