Hephaestus

Personality

Hephaestus is quite determined and decisive. She will stick up for her beliefs until the bitter end, even if it is obvious that she is wrong. As such, some consider her rude and stiff, although she maintains that she always chooses any new beliefs carefully. Devoted and loyal, she will often take critiques as insults and defend her loved ones. She considers skittish, disloyal people to be immoral, so she is often unsure of the tricksy dragons of the Shadow Flight.

One might think that this personality would not mesh well with agriculture, but the tough plants of the Ashfall Waste lets Hephaestus utilize her determination in plant care. She isn't really one for books, although she has been able to sit through the more concise, simple tomes in Starfall's collection. As such, she has a reasonable knowledge on farming. Oddly enough for a dragon of the Fire Flight, she has an aversion to metalworking as she was forced to be a skilled forger from a young age. She associates metal creations with her strict father - unfeeling and rigid.


Backstory

Hephaestus was named after her grandfather, who was a very skilled metalworker who had brought much fortune to her bloodline. However, he'd died before he could teach his son his trade, so the family lost most of their riches. Hephaestus's father, Eindar, had only his mother to raise him, and without any valuable skills, he lost almost all of his riches. Eindar married a fellow guardian dragon, Aleinay, who was gambling on Hephaestus inheriting her grandfather's skills.

She had little interest in the craft that permeated the Fire Flight, which greatly annoyed her expectant parents. Instead, she was fascinated by agriculture and was saddened that there was a lack of plant life in the Ashfall Waste. Hephaestus was eager to start her Search, and it lead her to a flat plain right next to a grand mountain in which she could carve her home in the Emberglow Hearth. Fortunately, it was an iota cooler than the rest of the Ashfall Waste.

After much hard work, Hephaestus was able to create a small farm, she was visited by a disheveled young fae dragon named Starfall. He was somewhat difficult to communicate with, as all fae dragons are, but Hephaestus was willing to take him in for the time being. This was a fortunate happening, as Starfall was surprisingly well-versed in farming. As fae dragons disliked long-distance travel, this son of two farmers relied on books to gain a very impressive knowledge on flora. He was helpful and thoughtful, which paired well with Hephaestus's determination and strength. Eventually, they fell in love.

While going to sell some crops, Hephaestus found a young satin pocketmouse and little chipskink locked in a fight. They both seemed to be hungry and injured. Taking pity on the little creatures, she brought them back to her and Starfall's abode. Her husband had a hunch that the two were abandoned nearby each other for some reason and the chipskink was trying to eat the pocketmouse. The two decided to raise the little creatures, Hephaestus taking the quiet, observant satin pocketmouse that she named Lotaci, after a baker whose shop she would sometimes visit as a young dragon. The two soon found that Lotaci would wave her fins and ears wildly when she noticed a healthy crop. Hephaestus considers Lotaci to be a helpful farmhand.


Room Description

Hephaestus's room is a rather small, as a good portion of what would otherwise be her room is taken up by her farm. On her sturdy desk, various books on farming and botany can be found. They would be messily strewn about without Starfall's presence. There is a noticeable lack of metal objects in her room, as she finds metal objects rigid and cold. Her treasure can always be found at a small maroon trunk at the foot of her and Starfall's bed, although there never is much treasure there. In the corner of this trunk, a small pile of straw can be found, which is where Lotaci sleeps.
