Biography

Personality

Mahogany hates being limited. This restless soul loves to spend his time outdoors, and can stay in one spot watching nature for hours on end. Though physically well-built, he dislikes long conversations and texts and finds them boring, although those that pertain to his interests can often entertain him. He is aware of a wide variety of cultures as he once traveled all of Sornieth to write about its wildlife. The aether dragon also has a good memory.

Backstory

When the aether dragons were spurned from orbit, Mahogany's parents, Maelstrom and Tourmaline, were happy to return to the planet. Though they were born in the Southern Icefield, they found that they felt more connected to the ideals of the Nature flight. In the Gladekeeper's realm, they had many offspring, who were raised to be faithful to the nature deity. In fact, most of the two aether dragons' progeny eventually exalted themselves to join the tumultuous battle of Dominance.

But Mahogany (the second Mahogany of the two, in fact) wished to travel Sornieth, chronicling the lifeforms he came across and spurning ecological growth. As a hatchling, he was playing near his lair, when he came across a coral carpenter. It was quite an oddity, as his family did not live near the coast of the Viridian Labyrinth. Eventually, he found a merchant at the Trading Post, pedaling exotic familiars but treating them unfairly. Mahogany was maddened at the merchant's disregard for the familiars' happiness, and he quickly decided to let them all out. Though he did get in trouble with the authorities, his parents congratulated him for acting in the supposed will of the Gladekeeper and nurturing the beauty of life. In time, he also made friends with the coral carpenter he encountered that day.

When he, a free spirit who hated being told what to do, heard that Maelstrom and Tourmaline were planning to have their entire set of progeny exalted, he objected to the prospect. Instead, he suggested that he travel the world, making sure that wildlife was not abused and promoting the Nature flight's will. His parents, though not being terribly excited about having all of their children fighting in Dominance, they agreed that Mahogany might eventually rear children of his own that would promote the Gladekeeper. At first, when he left his birth clan, he was rather uncompromising in his belief that the Nature flight was the greatest of all flights, but when he traveled the eleven domains, he eventually encountered new cultures and perspectives that made his realize that upholding the power of nature isn't the most important thing in the world.

Eventually, with his coral carpenter familiar, Xynacotha, as his only permanent companion, Mahogany decided that it would do him some good to settle down for a while. At first, he meant for his first circumnavigation to end in the Southern Icefield, but a mix of unprecedented harshness of the Great Furnace and somewhat unstable latent fire magic near the border of the Great Furnace and Zephyr Steppes, he decided to visit his parents' domain of origin beforehand.

At the end of his journey, he came to the Emberglow Hearth, a welcome change from the uneventfulness of the rest of the Ashfall Waste. When he was out observing various creatures, however, he injured himself, burning his wing. He soon blacked out, and the next thing he knew he was in an unfamiliar lair. A bandage was wrapped around his leg and his Xynacotha somehow seemed concerned. Next to him was a fellow aether dragon, who quickly introduced himself as Void. They struck up conversation - and enjoyed talking about volant and nocturnal animals. Though their respective favorite subjects were different, they had a mutual willingness to learn new things. As Mahogany disliked being stuck in one spot, he tried to get up and glide around, something that Void encouraged, though pain quickly struck his wing and he had to return to bed. Their respective knowledge and recklessness ensured that they would keep up with each other. Even their familiars hit it off. As Mahogany's wing healed, they forged a deep bond.

Room Description

The entrance to Mahogany's room is a stairway decorated with specimens of bugs, shells, and other such things. His room is not very big. In the center of the room is his bed. Next to it is a long nightstand with a cage for his familiar, Xynacotha. On the opposite side of the nightstand is a comfortable chair and a shelf containing lots of books. The ceiling contains a trapdoor to a cave at the top of the formation the clan's lair is carved into. Sometimes, Mahogany goes up to the cave to get some fresh air easily. Lacking a light source, the room is often dark.
