Mardel

A pallid veilspun that was once part of a large swarm that roamed in the Emperor's Wake. When the swarm discovered a solitary veilspun injured and stranded in the path of Luminax, Mardel made the risky treck out to rescue the injured veil. However, the injured veil had been infected with the pallid disease. Mardel worked hard to help the injured veil recover, but as its pallid infection progressed, they became pale and sickly. Not knowing the danger he was in, Mardel eventually became infected himself when the injured veil's scales dried and in turn flaked away from its body, sticking in his hair and lungs.

Once the rest of the swarm realized what was happening, they were quick to expel Mardel and the desiccated veil that had infected him, leaving them to the mercy of the rampaging Luminax. Not wishing to succumb to the disease, he searched for a way to cure himself while he still retained his mind. When he was unable to find a cure, he traveled south to the Ashfall Waste in an attempt to burn away his infection in the Waste's fires.

Although he was unsuccessful in his attempt to find a cure, Mardel's wings and hair have become scorched and burned by a smoldering flame that cannot be extinguished. This flame, while not consuming him, prevents him from shedding infected scales from his wings, rendering him unable to transfer the pallid disease so long as the flame continues to burn.
