HARKER
THE ARCHIVIST  The Southern Icefield was the perfect place to hide someone like Harker. Cold, desolate, far from anyone who could hurt him. They said his blood was cursed on every side, doubly so on some counts. A beast, a mistake, a tear in the veil, touched by the Shade before he hatched. He couldn't live among dragonkind, to be hunted or exploited. And so he stayed, isolated, too young to leave. He was taught to fear the Plaguebringer's children, but it was one of her own who rescued him: Varicella, a holy woman, following a lead from one of his distant relatives. She was terrifying to behold, four-eyed and jagged-toothed and scarred from disease, but she and her mate took him from the dusty, frozen archives he called home and told him of a place in the Sunbeam Ruins, where he would be safe among family. |
There are no mistakes in Clan Julianus. They may make their home in the path of a great monster, but in their quest for knowledge, they welcome all walks of life, any dragon with a story to tell. Harker, perhaps, had one of the strangest stories of all.
For all the time he spent among the frozen remnants of the Icewarden's realm, he grew fascinated with gathering and maintaining records, and if there was one thing the enthusiastic new matriarch of the clan had neglected, it was recruiting someone to do just that. Harker found his place among the scrolls and treasures collected by surveying parties, wrote down the stories of elder dragons who joined Clan Julianus, and began to trace his own lineage through these records.
Perhaps he was a beast, but even a beast can overcome their destiny.
