Medea

The Promethean Charm pair refers to the character Medea in Apollonius of Rhodes' Argonautika. Medea offers Jason the instructions to create the 'Promethean Charm' that will make him invincible against King Aeetes' various deadly trials. Jason, a descendant of Prometheus, fulfills the instructions with the aid of Hekate.

"Medeia meanwhile / took from the depths of the casket a special potion, / something that men refer to as the Promethean charm. / Were a man, after first placating with nocturnal sacrifice / Hekate, Maiden only-begotten, to smear it on his body, / of a surety he'd be invulnerable to strokes of bronze, / wouldn't cringe back from blazing fire; no, for one day / in both prowess and physical might he'd surpass all others."

The Promethean charm's main ingredient was a flower which "in appearance and colour much resembling the Korykian saffron, sprouting from double stems," "its subterranean root had the texture of flesh, just freshly severed," and "blackish sap." This sap was created from Prometheus' bloody ichor which fell from the eagle that ate his liver every day.
