As a Guardian it is Derianda's mission in life to protect her charge. This would be easier if her Charge wasn't Shianzar, who can't stand other people's company. She would love to be able to help him be a better person, but he's always just so awful to everyone, and has refused her attempts every time.

She is willing to behave in ways that may seem a bit unguardianly to make him behave, such as treating him like a hatchling when he behaves like one, and generally not letting him make decisions that she views as not good for him. Unfortunately this has ticked him off rather, because he views the treatment as an injury to his pride, and he is driven to act even worse in a display of rebelliousness.

She is beginning to doubt the effectiveness of her methods, and her own pride as a Guardian prevents her for asking for direct assistance with Shianzar. Perhaps emotional support would not count as "direct assistance" but she will not demand such a thing, if nobody offers it. Tenora did offer it, but Derianda was already leaving and now she thinks that it would be best to keep her errant Charge away from others at all costs.
